I didnt read other replies so sorry if this is a repeat...

If you are under 18 you can not apply.....if you are over 18 you can apply claiming sep household (diff states have diff rules) If you are under 18 the head of the household has to be the one to apply because they will go by income and bills...so forth and so on...and NO in my opinion foodstamps doesnt make a person look bad as long as they REALLY need them....I was a single mother years ago and needed them for about 8 months till I found a good job.

I remember you worked last year. So you are not lazy.
If you need assistance that is what it is there for.
We don't let people starve on the streets, usually.
When I was out of work and then my wife was laid off, we had two young kids at the time, and had to briefly get public assistance.
It's nothing to be ashamed of and does not make you a bad person in any way.
I consider those tax dollars a worthy cause.

All those years of paying taxes, social security, state tax, should be there for when we need them.
I see middle aged and elderly couples that have worked all their lives, and had a typical conservative attitude towards the welfare system - they considered it a handout for undeserving slackers.
Then when one of them was hospitalized with a serious medical condition and it devastated their savings and retirement - they suddenly understood and grudgingly appreciated the reasons for social programs and a safety net.

It is there for a reason. If it gets abused by some that would rather free-load, there are fraud investigators, their conscience, karma, and living with knowing their scam could collapse at any minute.

Quite a few, actually. They told me I had to go home and do the application online, of course.
