personally I think the internet has corrupted much of the communication, especially when it comes to love.

Personal face-to-face conversations with eye contact and body language are forever lost with the internet. We lose out on so much by not being "in person" when we communicate.

Such is life.

NOTHING beats that ..... BUT it is limited to those in close proximaty, the field has opened up a little !!

maybe...... but you know what.....you...you in perticular..... could never have expressed that thought to me, ... me in particular..... without the internet

So what?

There is nothing new under the sun. It's all been said and done before.

Had you lived in the days before the printing press you would have said the same thing about Guttenberg's discovery.

"Nowadays we can share the wealth of a storehouse of Ideas covering centuries! This knowledge will now be available for the benefit of the whole world!"

But did anything change? No.

Had you lived in the days before the telegraph you would have said the same thing about Morse and his little invention.

"Nowadays we can send a message over a hundred miles in an instant! Never before has such communication been possible!"

But did anything change? No.

Had you lived in the days before the telephone you would have said the same thing about A.G. Bell's little toy.

"Nowadays we can speak directly over hundreds of miles! Leaders can speak directly without the clouded messages of intermediaries! Surely this marvel will change the world forever!"

But did anything change? No.

Had you lived before the radio, the television, the satellite and on and on you would have said the same thing.

But did anything change? No.

You confuse technology with Progress, just as those who have gone before you have done.

Exchanging mouth-noises we call Words is not the same as communicating.

The Internet isn't new. It's just a re-packaging of what has gone before it.

Why assume the results will be different this time?

Of course. Why do you think the govt's of the world who are all in bed together are trying to censor and over-regulate the internet. The last thing the powers that be want is humanity UNITED focusing on them, rather than divided focusing on our petty differences.

The Government's most effective weapon is the mainstream media: more dangerous than standing armies, more deadlier than nuclear arsenals.

Unfortunately even if we have the way to communicate like never before we are still mostly morons!

The world is not becoming a better place on the contrary it is getting a lot worst.

Put some phone in monkey hand and see what kind of behavior they show up!

Civilization as reach the tipping point and no communication system will save the day, our specie is on the very last step of it so call evolution and the only possible outcome is downward until we get extinct.

ABSOLUTELY AND RIGHTFULLY SO !!

"Nowadays we can share the wealth of a storehouse of Ideas covering centuries! This knowledge will now be available for the benefit of the whole world!"

But did anything change? No.

OF COARSE IT DID !!

Had you lived in the days before the telegraph you would have said the same thing about Morse and his little invention.

"Nowadays we can send a message over a hundred miles in an instant! Never before has such communication been possible!"

But did anything change? No.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME>>>YES

Had you lived in the days before the telephone you would have said the same thing about A.G. Bell's little toy.

UUHH WHAT ?? OF COARSE IT DID

Had you lived before the radio, the television, the satellite and on and on you would have said the same thing.

OMG.... HUGE CHANGES

You confuse technology with Progress, just as those who have gone before you have done.

Exchanging mouth-noises we call Words is not the same as communicating.

Why assume the results will be different this time?

BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN THEM ALREADY, but we do have miles to go !!

________________________________________________

you dont see changes in the world as a result of those media...wow ?
doensnt mean that there wont always be those that will use these technologies to mans detriment, as with anything.

but this is the first media where we can discuss ideas, expose things, plan things, express points of views at a grass roots level.

its not the end all fix all answer, but it is an opportunity for us to work together, directly together, and it may not make a boo of differance in the long run only time will tell,

there is a reason that the govts are attempting to control it !

Conclusion

Online communication is a new phenomenon, having first come into existence toward the end of the 20th century. It is growing at one of the fastest rates of any new form of communication in human history, and its long-term impact is expected to be substantial. A not uncommon, and, in my eyes, justifiable, view is that online communication represents the most important development in human communication and cognition since the development of the printing press (Harnad, 1991).

I would agree. Had it not been for internet saturation of the "non-mainstream" things in my life; I'd still be wondering if I was the only one seeing the anomalies around me, or if I was alone in living the way i choose to live.

It's comforting to know that all the freaks are out there. Jhikpghf

I have observed that while at times a useful tool for sharing information, much of the social interaction is less kind. Because there is a screen to hide behind, people often act as they would not dare to in 'real life'. Yesterday the idea came to me that a good part of the internet is that much like a nudist colony strips us of judging people by 'fashion' or 'style', the internet has the potential to allow us to meet people based on personality, without judging based on appearance/economic status/etc. I suppose this view straight into a persona is the very same reason we do see the unkindness, but it saddens me to think there are really so many people who really and truly are mean in this world.

...exactly, thats why we are still learning, as we learn to interact properly with each other, we will become better people, this interacting stuff is very new to humans, .... we traditionally communicate on a much smaller scale, we had our circle or cliks, this is bigger, this is more diversified, this will take practice to get good at !

sadly, I do not see people learning. If anything, many of them revert to the junior high mentality and same cliques they were in then. There is often a great lack of compassion, kindness, and integrity compared to how people ought to behave. I understand your premise and admire your hope, but am disappointed in what I have observed on forums.
