from wiki:
Quote:Boys were "routinely beaten and abused" at the school during the 1950s and 1960s.

Some former inmates also claimed that there was a "rape room" at the school where they were sexually abused.[5] The complainants said that some of the victims were as young as nine years old.[6]

“The Official White House Boys Organization” established an award in 2010 for individuals who help to prevent abuse of children.[7] Its first recipient was Gus Barreiro, who had been fired from his job as chief of residential programs by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice in January 2009.[6]

In 1982, an inspection revealed that boys at the school were "hogtied and kept in isolation for weeks at a time",

The method of torture was for the prison guards to handcuff the teenagers and then hang them from the bars of their cells, sometimes for over an hour.[18]

an award for prevention of abuse goes to a guy who oversaw abuses at residential centers? like sandusky getting an 'thousand points of light' award for helping boys while molesting them? rape room? like ritual abuse? isolations? torture tactics like gitmo? is this MKUltra?

yeah, I was wondering, too, so did some digging

wow, I had no idea how bad this was, there's a bunch of blogs, some of them by the abused kids wanting to hear from others

At least one guy is finally in trouble that I could find, he's 85 now, probably thought he got away with it . . .

This guy's parents are on a mission, suing the center.

Then three more times just for fun. Mr. Tidwell Jr. the one armed man and his father Mr. Tidwell Sr. and a Mr. Hess, one of these would come in the middle of the night and set on my bed just long enough to be in my face as I awoke. I was then taken to the front desk of the cottage and told that I had been smoking and if I denied it I would "go down" So either way I was going to get a beating. Why? Because these child molesting sadistic men needed some late night entertainment.

http://dartcenter.org/content/for-their-own-good-0

excerpts:

The White House Boys Got a lawyer and filed suit against several state agencies. More than 200 men signed on. R.W. Hatton was dead, but Troy Tidwell, the one-armed man, was still alive. He is named in the suit.

Gov. Charlie Crist called for an investigation into the graves. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement started pulling records and asking questions. They talked to Troy Warren, who remembers digging boy-sized holes.

Most of the men recalled being beaten by two staffers: R.W. Hatton and the one-armed man, Troy Tidwell. At least three men described being sexually abused by other guards in an underground room they called the rape room.

And there was something else. Newspapers had published a photograph of a small cemetery. Thirty-one white crosses. No names.
As stories of deaths and disappearances emerged from their collective memory, the White House Boys began to believe that they were the lucky ones.

When Troy Warren heard of the cemetery, his mind went back to his stay at the school. He says he and another boy were ordered to dig three holes behind the chow hall. They were to dig at night. Tidwell and another guard told them to make the holes 4 feet deep, and as long as a boy.

Troy Tidwell lives in a white house near the center of Marianna. He doesn’t answer his door.

“We’re trying to shield him as best we can,” his landlord says on the phone. “He’s an 85-year-old man.”

“You’re just trying to ruin a good man’s life,” says his ex-wife, Mary.

“Leave him alone!”

wonder why she left him ?

Tidwell’s family lived in Bascom, a tiny town north of Marianna, Pippin says. His father died when he was young. When Troy Tidwell was 6, he played with his father’s shotgun. He leaned on the barrel and accidentally fired the gun, which severed his left arm.

Tidwell’s granddaughter, Tiffany Pippin, says her family doubts the stories. They know a man who danced the fox-trot on Friday nights, who took his grandchildren fishing, who flirted with the ladies behind the perfume counter at the mall in Dothan, Ala. They know a man who always dressed sharp before he left the house and sat quiet in the First Baptist Church on Sunday mornings. “He’s a good man,” says Pippin, 29. “He loved his wife. He never beat his children.”

sounds like he was busy beating other people's children

...
Bill Haynes is retiring after 30 years working for the Alabama Department of Corrections. He and his wife have a nice patch of land off a dirt road in a small town outside Montgomery. They live in a warm little brick house with a dachshund and a china cabinet full of glass Jesus figurines.

He’s been having a hard time sleeping. His old nightmares are back. He dreams he is running through the swamp, dogs behind him. He wonders if he ever should have gotten involved.

What is he owed? How do you measure a life of conversations cut short? How do you repay a man for years of distrust?

He wants reparations from the state, if it will make the juvenile officers of Florida think twice before hitting a child. He’d like to see Arthur G. Dozier’s name come off the school. He says he took a beating from Dozier himself, and that kind of sin should preclude the man from posthumous honor.

Bill Haynes thinks about Troy Tidwell sometimes. He thinks he’d like to knock the taste out of his mouth. “But that would make me no better than him,” he says. “I should have compassion for him.”

He is told that Tidwell has been upset by the lawsuit, physically and emotionally, that it has disturbed what little life he has left. He stopped going to church. He hasn’t been dancing. He asked his granddaughter if she would like to have his furniture.

aww, boo hoo

Haynes is told that Tidwell can’t sleep at night, and that he’s alone, blinds drawn, scared to come out of his little white house. Maybe, he says, that’s good enough.

Reform schools were often run by catholics. Many describe these places as pure evil.

Along with the Jesuits.

There were Jesuit reform schools?

The Jesuits are the collegiates, they don't care about 'reforming' bad kids.

They're all about sending smart kids to Ivy League Schools.

Of course you have to go through Catholic upbringings for that.

Reforms schools run by Jesuits sure is a stretch of the imagination.

Parents and/or kin didn't question the kid's disappearance?
No record of them looking for them?

From the 60's?
Surely there are hundreds or thousands of "survivors" with stories to tell.

Any Catholics here to comment on this sort of thing.
It always amazes me the excuses they can come up with.

Many people will not question a missing"bad apple",child or not.Especially when the authorities tell you said bad apple ran away. That part of the sister's story chilled me to the bone....
Anyway the majority of survivors wont tell their stories because they are not believed.
I could make the hair on the back of your neck stand up but what help would it be.

The prey is easier to spot when it's on the run.
These bastards have been wrenched from their reality, and will definately be vomiting in fear.
A "terrified" man makes mistakes and becomes easier to spot.......
or self terminates due to being a disgusting coward.
Either way, they will set their own nooses as they now live in a world that doesn't give a f*#k about their excuses and lies because the truth is now what matters.

I had a Girlfriend that got sent to reform school for staying out late after her concerned Mom called the Police to look for her. She tells some pretty horrific Stories about the place but no one ever took her stories serious because being that she went to reform school she had no credibility. She went to a place called Samarcand.

Why would the police send her to a reform school for staying out late? Was she causing trouble?

Guessing the kids got in trouble somewhere, and the police sent them to the reform schools, or maybe the parents. Idk if the parents would be uninformed of their kids getting sent there.
