Recently,

under a full moon, a blue moon actually,

a peep buddy of mine experienced a crime. ( a break in to his vehicle.)

when he contacted his insurance person, she said, "Oh yes. Full moon". She confirmed that her claims jumped exponentially at that time. (the time of the full moon.)

Question is, why?

I told him I would ask you guys. I hope you can help.

(If this has been explained previously, sorry. my bad.)

They even reanalyzed Lieber’s homicide data and found no correlation.

Ok, to be fair, the moon does not adversilly influence people's behavior.

i think op's thread topic is , in my 3rd person opinion, a bad position. there is nothing to support his mulderish ' I want to believe" fantasy and as such,

Same reason crime goes up during warm weather, conditions are favorable.

First you must ask why does the tide rise during the full moon, then realize that we are water and we are pulled back and forth just like the shore of the beach!

I'm assuming the moonlight gives more incentive to stay outside and thus succumb to a more 'sleep deprivated' state than otherwise normal. Not to mention the effect white-light has on the cornea & gravitational effects to which everything on Earth is affected by.

Standing under a Solar Eclipse however is something else entirely, after seeing the Eclipse back in 2006 in Turkey the most memorable thing about the event was just how 'charged' everything felt, as if the air had become electrostatic. I put it down to the sudden temperature drop & dinural range underneath the Moons Shadow as it moved across but certainly those who experience it never forget.

And creatures called Azara's owl monkeys, which prowl the forests of Argentina after dark, are more active on full-moon nights, according to a study published in 2010 in the journal PloS ONE. The researchers also found that the morning after those full moons, the tuckered-out monkeys often slept in.

When the moon was new (and so not visible from Earth), however, monkeys hunkered down for the night and waited for morning before moving about. During three lunar eclipses (when the moon moves into the Earth's shadow) during the course of the study, the monkeys also stayed put.

There is evidence that prey are less active during full moons, when the extra light could make them easy pickings for predators. To see if predators follow suit, researchers tracked three wild wolves during full and new moons over four lunar cycles. And indeed, the wolves traveled significantly less during the full compared with the new moons, according to the research detailed in 2006 in the journal Behavioral Processes.
