good. $20 hour minimum wage means I can double the rent on the people renting from me.

no it doesn't, moran, it just means you'll have to pay your employees fairly, and there are laws against such practices of raising the rents, you must be one of Trump's fathers followeres who ran people out of fair housing

and it will mean workers will be able to afford housing and live teh american dream which has not materalized

I'm starting to understand why the first thing revolutionaries do when they take power is redistribute the land and shoot all the landlords.

Instead of raising the minimum wage, they should LOWER the PRICES on EVERYTHING! Cut everything 20% off! Then people could actually afford to buy something.

You have to begin by changing the FED mandate from 2 percent inflation to zero percent inflation.

But it would only work if congress tunes their spending habits and public policy that direction.

The FED doesn't really regulate inflation. 20% interest during Jimmy Carter didn't fix inflation.

Interest rates should be fixed and never changed.

Good luck getting new tenants. People can barely afford a place to stay now. You cannot even rent a place earning minimum wage!

Minimum wage doesn't cover the rent anywhere in the U.S.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/minimum-wag...n-the-u-s/

"A minimum-wage worker would have to put in lots of overtime to be able to afford a modest, two-bedroom apartment anywhere in the country. And downsizing to a one-bedroom pad barely helps.

Even with some states hiking pay for those earning the least, there is still nowhere in the country where a person working a full-time minimum wage job can afford to rent a decent two-bedroom apartment, according to an annual report released Wednesday by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

Even the $15 hourly wage touted by labor activists would not be enough to make housing affordable in the overwhelming majority of states, the coalition found. Nationally, someone would need to make $17.90 an hour to rent a modest one-bedroom or $22.10 an hour to cover a two-bedroom place."

If you're business is that shitty and poor that you can't afford a couple of extra dollars an hour then you probably shouldn't be in business. Greed is tha e main problem employers have with this

Every time they raise minimum wage, other jobs aren't increased proportionally. There is no raise across the board. The bottom feeders just get pushed up to earn what's considered to be middle of the road jobs.

My job requires an Associates degree. I'm making close to 30k a year right now, which is roughly $15 an hour.

$20 an hour? Sure I'll get a raise, but people who are currently making $20 an hour won't.

They keep doing this and eventually what we will have is Communist Russia, where everyone working any job makes the same amount of money. Then we will collapse for the same reason. Why should I care about my job when less skilled people make the same that I do? Why should I work hard, when lazy people make the same that I do?

The wage stagnation is terrible.

Instead of raising the minimum wage, they should LOWER the PRICES on EVERYTHING! Cut everything 20% off! Then people could actually afford to buy something.

That has been tried countless times throughout history. The problem is that prices are a very important indicator for producers. If the price of some good or service drops, it means that demand for that price has dropped so less companies will invest time and material for the product or service.

Conversely if the price of a good or service is too high, that is a signal to the economy that more of that good or service is demanded by the economy so companies will invest more to produce the product or service.

This is a balance that is maintained by the market. In most command and control economies that have set price or wage controls you either end up with an unwanted surplus of goods or services or a deficit. The longer the price controls are enforced, the larger the imbalance builds until begins to irreparably damage the economy, sending it into either a deflationary or hyper-inflationary collapse.

Note that wages are a price, so minimum wage laws from the inception produce unwanted and damaging effects to an economy.

That ship sailed a long time ago.

In 1996 I quit my job as a diesel mechanic and drove a bait truck instead.

I made the same money driving minnows and worms around to bait shops as I did rebuilding cummins and detroit diesel engines.

raise it, it just means in my mind as a business owner that you have more money in your pocket so I will raise the price for my goods I sell and get more money. I don't care. I will then just cut their hours as well and higher illegals to do the work under the table!

I get screwed and I am underpaid (15 fast food wage kid), but as long as I feel like they're are people beneath me I can feel superior too, I will defend this absurd ass system, because I don't seem to understand how supply and demand works. Also I have literally no idea what happened in the soviet union but will cite it as an example anyway because f*#k you.

It will hurt the wealthys the most :)

Bull sh*t!

It'll hurt the average worker the most when half the jobs disappear and those few that remain and suddenly make $20 an hour can't afford to live because prices went up so much.
