The Hypercube or Tesseract is supposed to be the 4th dimension (not time but other) of the 3d cube. They calculated this as an 8 faceted object based on the formula of 2 points make a line. 4 lines make a square. 6 squares make a cube. Therefore 8 cubes must make a tesseract. However, the +2 may just be a coincidence.

When one has the origin of a POINT of SINGULAIRTY, which is the start (0d).... you have a different pattern.

6 squares make a cube in 3d
4 lines make a square in 2d
2 points make a line in 1d
1 pos (point of singularity) makes the 0d

The pattern seems to be 1, 2, 4, 6,.... therefore 8 is no longer automatically intuitive for this pattern of what a 4th dimensional shape would be from a cube.

???

This line of thinking is only addressing the POINT to CUBE progression. The question is does the TESSERACT have to be 8 facets.

BTW, the Tesseract when shown as an object is really only pretending to be the "shadow" of itself.

In fact taking it in the other direction one more step, you have NIL.

and the following pattern emerges:

0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 4 -- 6 -- ?

+1 +1 +2 +2

so the most logical next steps are actually either +3 (add one more to the last adding amount)

or

+4 (double the last adding amount)

The new hypercube in this case would be 9 or 10 facets, not 8.

Taking this same logic from a tetrahedron (and maybe this is what they already came up with):

NIL (0)
POS (1 pt of sing.)
LINE = 2 points
TRIANGLE = 3 lines
TETRAHEDRON = 4 triangles
HYPER-TETRAHEDRON = 5 tetrahedrons in 4th dimension shape

0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 for Hyper-Tetra
0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 4 -- 6 -- 9 for Hyper-Cube alt 1

now divide

na -- 1 -- 1 -- 0.75 -- 0.6667 -- 0.5556

0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 for Hyper-Tetra
0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 4 -- 6 -- 10 for Hyper-Cube alt 2

now divide

na -- 1 -- 1 -- 0.75 -- 0.6667 -- 0.5000

0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 3 -- 4 -- 5 for Hyper-Tetra
0 -- 1 -- 2 -- 4 -- 6 -- 8 for Hyper-Cube (common)

now divide

na -- 1 -- 1 -- 0.75 -- 0.6667 -- 0.625

which one is correct?

What happens to the Tesseract Odin was storing in Asgard?

8 seems to make the math work out however it's a 3d visualization projected to 4d, how sure can we be about it?

Are other interpretations possible?

The traditional count is "one inside, one outside, 6 other", is there another way to arrange/count?

what about...6+6=12chuckle

It is possible, but it does not match any pattern I see. 10 seems the most intuitive to me.

As Sagan admitted "how do we know? we can't see into the 4d world with 3d eyes..."

The traditional hypercube we "see" is supposed to be only a shadow or wireframe projection of what the "actual" is. how can we be sure of a projection even? we can't wrap our heads around 4d so I would assume that the "8" facets could just be a guess.
