Nothing to do with PRESIDENT Trump or tariffs. From a retail perspective, Dressbarn is a dog. Kinda like Toys-R-Us was in the toy world.
All you folks with TDS want to blame everything bad on PRESIDENT Trump.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/...mpted-sale

Quote:Ascena Retail Group Inc. will start winding down its Dressbarn clothing chain, the latest upheaval in a continued retail shakeout.

After trying to find a new owner, Ascena said Monday that it’s preparing to close the approximately 650-store chain. No timeline was given, and stores will remain open until the wind-down commences.

Ascena, whose brands have come under pressure as consumer tastes shift, needs to make changes after posting more than $1 billion of losses in the past four years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Somebody gets rich building those things but they are doomed to fail

Are they ?

There are 2 in the town I live in....both were built before I was born(55yr now)...one has 6 stores and the other has 10-11 stores....both are fully occupied and always have been ....the reason, the guy who owns them told me that it's way better to have full occupancy at lower than market rates that to have empty buildings sitting there making NO Money.

Look at that, a property owner trying to make money instead of a tax write off.

Thanks to #METOO and MGTOW no one is dating anymore.

No need for dresses in today's Tinder hook-up culture.

Their clothes were as ugly as JCPenny's until Penny's clothes got a nice snap-up in the nineties.

Why buy polyester crap when you can pay 1/4 for linen, cotton, flax, etc. that is more comfortable to wear, at thrift stores.

Thrift Stores are the shizzzz. Massive-shouldered dresses with huge necklines to match women's hips and make a "business look" were always ugly. Glad to see it go.

no one wins in a trade war,

it all comes down to who can suffer the most pain,

It only works if you have your own manufacturing that evens the playing field for cheap import goods. If you raise the price on widgets and you don't have your own widget factoring in the country then you are an ignorant fool for raising tariffs on widgets. The time for tariffs on goods was back in the 1980s when companies were going offshore to make hefty profits for stockholders on cheap goods from China that would need to be replaced often thinking that was the better business plan than making quality and charging accordingly. The tariffs would have made those companies weigh whether the risks and shipping and the tariffs to bring them back would be worth it.
That ship, pun intended, has sailed.
