Five years ago environmentalist and entrepreneur Paul Hawken asked the question; how do we fix global warming in a timely, practical, cost effective manner. Surprisingly no one had previously put together a set of solutions. Hawken was sick of the panic and helpless hand ringing of climate activists and the dishonesty of politicians. As a businessman he just wanted the best affordable solutions that worked, so he approached:

"a broad coalition of researchers, scientists, graduate students, PhDs, post-docs, policy makers, business leaders and activists to assemble and present the best available information on climate solutions in order to describe their beneficial financial, social and environmental impact over the next thirty years."

What came out of the research became Project Drawdown.
https://www.drawdown.org/

With some surprising results. Research indicated that the greatest reduction in future greenhouse gas emissions came from educating girls in the developing world, particularly Africans. Project Drawdown measures effectiveness in billion tonnes of CO2 avoided or removed ( gigatons ). It turns out that combined effect of educating girls and making family planning available to them could avoid 120 gigtons of CO2 emissions before 2050. To put that in perspective all the European Union countries together, over half a billion people, would take 40 years to emit that much CO2 at current rates of production.

The effect of making primary and secondary education available to all girls is startling. "According to the Brookings Institute the difference between a girl with no education and one with 12 years of education is four to five extra offspring"

You may think that large countries like China, India, Brazil, Mexico and Indonesia have runaway population growth and high fertility rates but this is not true. In the developed world the "replacement rate" is just over two children per mother. In the poorest most war torn developing world countries this number can approach 3. Here are those large countries fertility rates:

China 1.6
India 2.3
Brazil 1.6
Mexico 2.2
Indonesia 2.1

But the story is very different in sub Saharan Africa

Niger 7.2
Chad 6.4
Somalia 6.3
Congo 6.3
Angola 6.2

As this map shows

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ferti..._map_2.png

Almost all the world's population growth this century will come from sub Saharan Africa. The poorest, most underdeveloped countries with the most fragile infrastructure and least developed agriculture. These population growth rates are unsustainable and will lead to war, famine and mass migration. Those future consumers also have the highest impact on future CO2 emissions growth.

The best thing we can do to alleviate future suffering and reduce the impact of global warming is to support charities that help to educate African girls like, Meghan Markle does.

"Meghan said: “Everyone should be afforded the opportunity to receive the education they want, but more importantly the education they have the right to receive. And for women and girls in developing countries, this is vital. Providing them with access to education is the key to economic and social development."

You can't weasel out of action with that red herring, it totally misses the elephant in the room.

Here is a different charity you could support, The African Education Trust.

https://africaeducationaltrust.org/girls-and-women/

"A girl in South Sudan is more likely to die in childbirth than to finish primary school.

Fewer than 2% of girls in Somalia attend secondary school."

I can only assume that people who are against this idea are in favour of more suffering, war, overpopulation, oppression of women, climate change, mass migration and starvation in Africa.

It takes all sorts. 1dunno1

Educating men and boys too. In developed countries personal status is gained primarily through possessions and bling. In third world countries status is determined by the amount of your offspring and livestock.
Funny that peoples of low wealth who do not own many possessions value their name and word.Whereas in areas of abundant wealth most people could care less about their word .

I can guarantee that I am more environmentally conscientious and active than you are. If you want to change Africa you educate the whole population, not just the little girls. Just sick.

Maybe you could look into the good works that have been done, only to be kicked out by the U.N.and China.

Education for all, really. What tends to happen in poorer counties is that boys get what education is available and girls get little to none. As the African education trust points out:

"By grade 5 only half as many girls as boys attend school in Uganda and Kenya.

Only one disabled woman is educated for every five disabled men in East Africa.

Fewer than 12% of teachers in Uganda are female, and only 3% in Somalia."

In many cultures there is a reduced expectation that girls should receive education and that undereducation is a significant factor in the high birth rate and inherent inequality. Cracking the education of girls problem transforms a country's prospects and sets it on the road to prosperity. Just look at the huge success there has been in Sri Lanka.

https://borgenproject.org/girls-education-in-sri-lanka/

Sri Lanka fertility rate 2.0, Pakistan 3.5, both in the Indian subcontinent but with very different attitudes to educating girls.

Maybe this is part of it ,Sri Lanka 76% Buddhist , Pakistan 96% Moslem.Burqua,s do more than shield the face.
I've never been to Pakistan but have traveled.in many Moslem countries, Allways been impressed by their devoutness and sincerity ..
I do not think this has much to do with religion though.More to do with oppression of women .
I think of the Amish and Mennonites with their drab clothing and "Bonnets" for "their "women .Same same.

A willy waving competition about how green we all are is a different thread altogether but go on, I will give you a chance to show off. My CO2 emissions from all household energy use, heating, cooling, washing, cooking and all other electricity use is 160kg. Most Americans average around 7,400kg for electricity, tell us how you do.

Growing up in a country where both sexes get an equal access to education you have assumed the "educating African girls" means ".. but not boys". What you have to get your head around is that boys get whatever education is going and girls get little to none, remember Malala Yousafzai got shot in the head at point blank range for daring to suggest that girls should get an an education as well as boys.
