Xiuhtecuhtli was celebrated often but especially at the end of every 52-year period. This was the time the 365-day solar and the 260-day sacred calendars ended on the same day and the Aztec celebrated the Binding of the Years with the New Fire Ceremony. In order to perform the ritual, priests marched in solemn procession up the Hill of the Star on a peninsula near Culhuacán to wait for the star Yohualtecuhtli (either Aldebaran in the Taurus constellation or the Pleiades as a whole) to get past its zenith.

Having ascertained this, they would tear out the heart of a sacrificial victim and kindle a flame in a small wooden hearth they placed inside the hole left in his chest. Priests used a drill method to generate this sacred flame. It was then carried on pine sticks to light the fires anew in every hearth, including the sacred braziers of perpetual fire, that numbered over 600 in the capital alone.

Brutal

Watch the movie Apocalypto and read world history regarding human sacrifice. It's disgusting.

My question is WHO came here to teach them this...??

Some sort of feathered serpent god? Kukulcan? Or who?

Sickening stuff.

It's all for a good cause, one can hope. Much creation is also going on. The 52-year calendar round mentioned above last began in 1974, which means it is to end in 2026.. great leaps in renewal must be accomplished to greet it then. The site of the New Fire ceremony is the Hill of the Star in Iztapalapa, also home of an important Passion play.

They will find many armies to test them, but none to resist.
They will come in their shining ships to conquer and destroy,
Barbarians of gold and feathers and serpents of fire.

Yes I've seen it twice, I very much like Gibson's work except the Passion.

And I also know the Aztec's were very brutal and I know nearly every tribe has their own unique brutality but the Aztec's in particular are very nasty in this regard.

I went to a museum exhibit on the Aztecs in the 90's and they had 2 jars full of jade beads, must have been tens of thousands of beads. The exhibit said each bead represented a child sacrifice, their hearts ripped out of their chests.

They would also capture warriors from opposing tribes then stake them down and their warriors would strike them with lightweight clubs over time so that they could remove their skin easily. Then the priest would wear the skins like robes.

Very disturbing rites, very brutal people.

It’s easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

I have a bad feeling that western north America is gonna burn like never before..

Rains stopped in April, so it will be drier than usual too.

May we be spared.

cow RE: HALF OF MEXICO IS BURNING
Hate to rain on your parade, but this Global "Forest" Fires Watch page:

https://fires.globalforestwatch.org/map/...246902&z=3

... seems to be generated by satellite data that makes NO DISTINCTION between any source of any detected "fire"!

For instance, if you zoom into Southern California then it's obvious that the detected fires are either oil refinery flare stacks or simply campfires in fire pits. Try clicking on any "fire" dot and note that there is an "acquisition date" and "brightness" and "confidence" ratings for each sighting.

So this is "Artificial Intelligence" based on satellite-acquired data. But I would love to be proven wrong here, so please do that...

No doubt the air quality in Mexico City sucks (it always has), and perhaps there are 20 actual forest fires contributing to this. But no, half of Mexico is NOT on fire, no matter how much you might wish that.

Too bad
The only thing good about Mexico was it's nature

Now it is a real PIT OF HELL

I could only watch Apocalypto once….no more.

Same for The Passion. In both, the violence was too much for me.

But…they both told the truth of those ages. It's a sorrowful tale….

I hope humanity will some day learn from these. It would be a start for people to learn world history, which most don't study or know.
