Try putting a coldpack behind your lower back to see if you have Stenosis, wherein your arthritis is squeezing the nerves in your spine. If that is the problem, the pain goes away quickly.

Also there is a " neutral position" to rest in, research that.

Cold is for the initial injury. Heat is for therapy/relief.

Found the article about better sleeping position. The doc did write an order for me to have PT... maybe I ought to follow up with that. Guess I will have to.

Off to bed shortly.. thanks all for helping!

But if it's an old issue just rearing it's ugly head again, I'd go with heat.
But that's me

Stretch often and wisely...slowly add small weights,
Sleep with a pillow between your legs...or on your back with pillow under knees...
Use resistance bands to find your weak spots and work on those.

RE: Sciatic pain
Anti-inflammatories are the only cure. Inflamed nerves are swollen and don't fit in the tight spaces going through bone. So they get pinched and it hurts.

Maybe it is necessary to study how Stenosis affects inflammation to understand my post about cold being applied to a Stenosis injury? I meant to say, if it IS caused by Stenosis, this would help identify that.

Agreed about your statement about cold and heat usage in other cases.

RE: Sciatic pain
I had a little of that this morning myself.

I don't have instant cures, but when I was taking mega-mag magnesium supplement:

I had no problems until about six months after I quit taking it because I ran out, was broke, then forgot to get more.

(It's pretty cheap, but broke is broke)

It's just water from the Great Salt Lake in Utah, essentially.

A chiropractor recommended I take a magnesium supplement for inflammation(it's anti-inflammatory)

And it worked for me.

Can't help with acute pain poroblems, except tylenol worked good enough last time I started a back pain problem.

Sleeping too much, or laying around too much often triggers my problems.

Kind of a catch 22 once problems begin, because that's all I can do, but normally 7hrs is short enough I don't stretch out too much.

iMLRS. Top of line ones will cost you $5k. I bought one off ebay used for $2,800. Use it everyday.
