I've had 2 calls. Last night, and today, by people claiming to be from microsoft and want to know about my computer. I hung up both times.

Maybe some nefarious ppl are using htis "Urgent" thing to scare ppl.

When I get calls from the 'Vindoughs Teknikal Departrent, ' I tell them I have an Apple and they hang up

ZombieLoad Attack Affects All Intel CPUs Since 2011: What to Do Now

There's a good chance your laptop is powered by an Intel CPU. If so, then you'll need to update your computer immediately, after a class of vulnerabilities was discovered that allows attackers to steal data directly from your processor.

ZombieLoad affects every Intel processor made since 2011, which means all MacBooks and a large majority of Windows PCs are in the crosshairs. The bug can even be used on virtual machines in the cloud.

Bottom Line

Unfortunately, researchers believe ZombieLoad, along with Spectre and Meltdown, are the first examples of a new class of vulnerabilities that will continue to surface far into the future. We can only cross our fingers that these flaws are quickly patched, but once they are, it's up to you to make sure your devices have all been updated to the latest, most secure versions. And, as always, change your passwords often and use antivirus software.

When did they stop supporting XP, wasn't it 10-12 yrs ago...and Suddenly it's a security issue....LOL

Yea, not enough folks moving to Win10 is a REAL emergency...for Gate's wallet
Support for XP ended in 2014.

I am still running my main puter on XP Pro SP3 I have no intention to upgrade. My secondary puter has Windows 7 "family edition" I barely ever use it. It's a "just in case" machine.

Thanks for posting the advisory. I just got home seeing the thread. I'll take a look at the links.

I came. I saw. I Concorde.

Seems longer

This is akin to the idiots who keep sending me "Your warranty is about to expire" ...on my 2006 Saturn !

No, really ?

It does, doesn't it?

Anyway, this issue is real, and those still using these old operating systems definitely should apply the patch/upgrade.

They should take them offline.

Use them just for games and word processing.

chuckle

XP works very good if you don't bloat it with updates.

That's because all Intel CPUs since 2011, and many before 2011 have Vpro AMT.

Can be undetectably remote controlled, even if "not connected" to the internet via Out of Band networks.

So what exactly is all the fuss? What is the vulnerability, specifically?

Me thinks the real vulnerability liesin this "urgent pack".

The real vulnerability must be us to keep buying their crappy product.
