adios ...end of an era for VW beetle car

VW Beetle Production Ends As Final Car Is Built In Mexico

The final Volkswagen Beetle has rolled off the assembly line in Mexico.

The last car marks the end of an era as the Beetle played a pivotal role in transforming Volkswagen into what it is today. While the third-generation model wasn’t very popular, Volkswagen sold nearly five million Beetles in the United States. This helped to push global Beetle sales to 21.5 million units overall.

The original Beetle was responsible for a bulk of those sales, but the second-generation model – dubbed the New Beetle – was a hit when it was introduced in 1998. Its popularity helped the company to sell more than 1.2 million units between 1998 and 2010. The third and final Beetle was introduced in 2011 and more than 500,000 units have been built since then.

Those new beetles are bogus anyway.

It was crap anyway.

The good beetles stopped in 1979.

Better beetles stopped in 1966(67 was okay but they started with the cheap headlights...).

The new beetle is a water cooled front engine transverse POS.

Somebody should file some kind of abandonware claim on the Karmann Ghia patents, and start making those again.

I've owned a few.

Would like to get another one but they're really rare and pricey now.

I like Corvairs, not sure about their dependability though.

Very reliable.

But the steering problem is a real thing.

chuckle

I bought 1961 that had been in a barn a few decades. All it took to get it running was an oil change, pushrod tube seals, and accelerator pump diaphragms.

But the oversteer was scary as Hell.

chuckle

Nader was right about that. Would have been a fantastic car if Chevy hadn't replaced the front end with crap.

And it would actually have floated better than my VW type III.

chuckle

Body was sealed up better.

(I registered my VW as a boat for a short film, floated it at Lake FT. Gibson)

Corvair would have been easier.

I do like the look of the new Beetle though, think it's for a more metro guy or ladies.

New paint though claimed to be in original color, runs.
