https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/...ivers.html

Quote:Up to 95 per cent of river-borne plastic polluting the world's oceans pours in from just ten rivers, according to new research.

The top 10 rivers - eight of which are in Asia - accounted for so much plastic because of the mismanagement of waste.

About five trillion pounds is floating in the sea, and targeting the major sources - such as the Yangtze and the Ganges - could almost halve it, scientists claim.

You're all bitching about the wrong thing.
Plastic bags in developed countries isn't even on the map as far as ocean pollution goes.
The social programming you speak of is working to get you to BUY cloth bags. Made in China, one of the WORST polluters of the oceans re plastic.
Westerners are being made to feel guilty for EVERYTHING! Now thats social programming.

Could be said about a million things.

True. But he plastic bag is so obvious. And so normal and simple to not do. Just go to the grocery store with your own bag.

With a pack of cookies, wrapped in plastic, you don't have much choice, but throwing a plastic bag away every other day is an easy thing to not do just by shopping how your parents and grand parents also shopped, with a bag.

i heard a podcast recently where a guy remembered having no garbage. back in the 1930's. Everything was used. If they bought a sack of sugar, they would make the bag into clothes.

No trash. They just 'fit in' to the earth, into living.

I just find it ironic that China was in the 'dark ages' before Nixon in the 1970's, and now they are American Rivals in almost everything.

it just blows my mind.

Every other day, throwing a plastic bag away, by lets say 200 million Europeans and 200 million Americans.

For no particular reason, except too lazy to think of bringing a bag to the grocery store.

Lots of plastic in the Ocean comes from India and some island nations there. All the places that we sell a lot of our plastic waste to, for 'processing'.

People all over the world, even in places like Africa, can go buy one orange, or2 or 3 small items, and get it in a plastic bag. And 20 seconds later that bag is in the bushes. 24/7 constantly.

I really like re-usable bags.

I have to carry my groceries for about a mile. I don't want those cheap, small bags.

I have been doing this for years.

You spoiled, car people make me sick.

Judge not lest ye be judged.

You ecofreaks that don't actually know the truth aren't any better.

Prius vs hummer, hummer is more environmentally friendly

LED vs fluorescent vs incandescent. Incandescent wins.

You can't just take into account the part of the life cycle that the consumer sees.

As it is becoming known that carbon isn't the evil greenhouse problem we've been sold, carbon emissions become less of an issue, in fact they seem to be making the planet greener as vegetation is increasing according to a recent report.

I have been studying this issue. A lot of the waste is funneled through rivers. in addition to getting rid of single use plastics, we should have boats and people on rivers picking up the crap that assholes toss.

They are not our rival re pollution, they pollute far more than we do.
The only way they rival us in other ways is stealing the tech we have built over there and claim it as their own.
Self loathing mistakenly elevates others in your mind.

Yes, carbon makes plants grow faster and greener.

Prius vs. Hummer isn't an issue, as I am a second class American... No car, no money.. Just a roof over my head.

Ironically, I am healthy... I laugh at people who take their gas guzzlers to a place where they lift weights. I simply carry my groceries home twice a week. I walk to work.

People are selfish idiots.
