If only they had shown as much reluctance to invade Belgium in 1914 and Poland in 1939 then the world would be a better place today.

well, we have learned from our past mistakes 1dunno1

also: that had been our grandfathers

Yer, but for the Germans a European mission really should explicitly exclude the UK as otherwise Europeans will still feel it something to do with the US, even though the UK has stuck by France and Germany since 2004 against the US on this, yet most peoples perception is that the UK is a poodle of the US and that taints any these relationships...

and in my mind is another clear reason why they should split, at least then the UK and EU can pursue their own policies and not get bogged down in that other stuff as to who is controlled by the US, since those on either side accuse the other of being a poodle of the US..

Bah, humbugs..

lol, what makes you think this? the fact that UK had been America's lapdog for this and some previous middle east wars? chuckle
we still think the British islands are a part of Europe
even tho the Brits themselves stubbornly deny it chuckle

We can agree that Blair certainly made a mess of things in terms of the lapdog thing..

but the recent wars (which I was/am opposed to) Britain/France certainly went their own way in Libya, the US conspiracies are that the UK and France tried to create a breakaway state outside US control.. and then Syria, the UK voting down Obamas attempt to create a coalition, not to mention UK/France/Germany doing all they can since 2004 to stop that becoming yet another mess, I would say that the notion of lapdog doesn't hold that much water...

and on this side of the channel many think the EU is a CIA creation and under the thumb of the US... hence them getting so stressed at your guys not buying their toys.. and if we stick with the EU they'll go and do a trade deal with the US and sell the NHS to the Americans, and make us import American food *shakes fist at the Europeans*

And that is what I mean, either side seeing the other as a lapdog/poodle.. and perceptions are a powerful even if they are incorrect they are hard to shake and would mess with any European Naval Mission.. though it would have been good if the E3 could have backed up their support of the Iran deal by patrolling those waters and not letting things get out of hand, otherwise leaving it to others risks that very thing happening..

and you're Continentals not Europeans ;)

2 world wars later and they still love their anti-semite, camel-jockey terrorists

Germany can't be trusted so it's best they stay on the "other side" where they belong.

We look forward to it.

We also look forward to:

100% aligning our foreign policy regarding Israel to that of the US.

renouncing any other trade deal the US would object to.

handing out the NHS to US corporations.

keeping IT giants operating tax free.

and god knows what else I am not aware of yet the US are demanding of us.

That's how, we brits regain control of our country...

Nope, no chance, you guys have a better chance of getting a trade deal as the Democrats still like you, a lot *pokes tongue out*, while we have managed to annoy both sides so no trade deal for us *cries crocodile tears* as each side will block the others attempts... you probably have a better chance of seeing Unicorns than a UK/US trade deal..

As I understand it, who needs locked down tight trade deals when playing the zero tariff game.. (which is actually what the UK has always done when it hits the fan)

and yes, we are knuckle dragging neanderthals so our education is limited to rocks :) at some point we'll get to the paper and scissors part :)

Sorry, no trade deal for you... not possible given how much Britain has annoyed both sides.. which if we are honest given how divided the sides are is really impressive.

yer, but you still don't have fiscal union or any other union that allows you guys to deal with the US one on one... and that might be a strength in good times it really is a serious weakness in the not so good ones like now.. which is currently being exploited..

Which is why I kinda feel a good step is creating a naval presence, else how else are you going to go eye to eye with the US, or China or whoever you want to at some point in the future..

Yer, but a Navy is not an Army.. a navy is somewhere over the horizon, and navies don't tend to kick your doors in and drag you off for being a dissenter... well, I am sure there are some historical ones that have, but you know what I mean.

To a degree European countries have to decide what they want to be, a loose confederation that works well as a team, or a federal union.. but it really does need the additional tools else it will be prey to whatever country wants to play games.

In Northern Europe the UK led JEF will be the first one the scene should anything happen in the region, well before NATO can sit and discuss what horse trading is needed to get a response, and who knows what that might cost... and as a group of like minded friendly nations they responded to the Ebola outbreak..

The EU lacks real tools.. hence why it is just the arbiter between the E3, the US, China, Russia and Iran.. now just the E3, China and Russia..

the problem is:
it is extremely difficult to invade only Belgium
