Played the senior tees this AM, and I overswung trying to reach a 300 yrd Par 4

My wood flew out of my hands and went 30 feet into a lake, by the end of my round it had floated to the far bank, fetched it out with a sand rake

Cleaned it up, good as new

That'll keep you humble, GM.

My humble moment came during our Ryder Cup tournament on Saturday.

My drive on the 160 yd par three hole didn't reach the end of the tee box.

Good thing it was the best shot round and not the alternate shot round.

Anyway, we laughed it off and I finished winning a 100 bucks on the day.

Humbling for sure, but not my home course! Cant play there till year...lol

The foursome behind us had a big laugh, but my buddies were cool with it. I played well teeing off with a 3 wood for the rest of the round. Being humbled might have helped, I really slowed down my swing and only concentrated on sweet spot contact. Didn't take home $100, sweet comeback you had

I like playing partners.
If one person hits a lousy shot the other usually hits a great shot.

We do another game called Wolf.
It's determined who tees off first by tossing a tee in the air.
Then you keep tossing until everyone has been put in the order.

1st guy tees off, then the next and the next and the next up to 5 - 6 players.
He can pick his partner accordingly and then it's them against all the rest,
or he can call "Wolf" and play alone against all the rest for double skins.
(best shot scramble)

Next hole the 2nd in line tees off and it gets repeated for all 9 holes.

Mostly we just play a best ball paying out for team score and skins.

Great game, we have a similar game at my home course.

Today was social, no money, teams, but just played for a round of drinks at the turn and a sit down after 18

Yep, here too.

Usually it's just like that.
The winner buys! LOL!

On most courses they don't allow more than 4 players at a time.
We don't have that rule most of the time as long as they scramble
or know the etiquette.

Our seniors came up with a great game.
They just take the best drive, then they play from there.
They can't drive 300 yds, but they can sure hit their approaches,
chips, and putts, so it's just as interesting playing with them.

They're also a lot more fun in some ways!

In high school we had a collection of farm wagons that had been made into floats in storage...

And when it came time for a parade we would pull the floats back out and repair whatever mishap had happened to them since the last parade...

The wagons did not get much wear...

They might still be in use...

I can not find a video of my home towns big golf course...

---------------

We also had a driving range...

We used to have a catholic college...

The catholic college struggled for many years and had enrollment so low you could not believe it...

It finally died...

And the Japanese bought it for a driving range...

So the Japanese had a huge fiberglass golf ball built and they wide load trucked it into town...

And they built this where the catholic college used to be...

Anyways it went bankrupt and the Japanese sold it to the city...

The driving range concept is good, and the bar and restaurant looked
great!

The problem is that you can't use grass to hit off of.

Chicago is known for good food.
I would have gone for the food and bar, then just hit a few balls for fun.
(prob. on a Monday night when the Twins aren't on)
