This plane is unpleasant as it is noisy...

A Nostalgic Goodbye to the American Airlines MD-80

The "Mad Dog" is retiring. American Airlines is saying goodbye to the last remnants of its once-proud fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft this week. To some, this is welcome news, but to many more it's a bittersweet end to an incredible era of aviation. Andy Luten, of Andy's Travel Blog, asks "why?", looks at the origins of the jet, and then speaks to captains and frequent flyers to begin understanding the attachment to this unique and nostalgic jet.

RE: McDonnell Douglas MD-80
It would be neat to buy one of those aircraft, land it on a large plot of land somewhere it can be left at forever. Then I would gut and convert it into a home. Point it south, mount solar panels on its wings.
