What makes people happy when skies are gray? The color yellow
Advertisement
Yellow is usually the color of happy, joyful emotions. But according to a new study, not all people associate the sunshiney shade with good vibes.

To find out what factors might play a role, researchers tested a new hypothesis: What if people’s physical surroundings affect their feelings about certain colors? For instance, if someone lived in cold and rainy Finland, would they feel differently about the color yellow from someone who lived near the Sahara Desert?

The researchers looked at color-emotion data from an ongoing international survey of 6625 people in 55 countries. The survey asks participants to rate 12 colors on how closely they are associated with feelings including joy, pride, fear, and shame.

Slightly off topic, but you would be a good mod Coolchick.
You have been around this LoP block for far more years than I have even been looking at this sight. You MAY have been a mod at one point, of that I don't know. BUT, you have never asked, are un-presuming, level-headed, and may play a mean guitar.
That be good qualifications, arrr.

All the world says my Tao is great, but seems odd, like nothing on earth.
If it was like anything else, how small it would have been from the very beginning!

RE: What makes people happy when skies are gray? The color yellow
I have this lightbulb that casts that orange hue of the setting and riding sun on the horizon. It is just the right hue and brightness for my livingroom. It has fooled me numerous times. I've taken a nap after supper and awoke to the light of that bulb thinking the sun was near setting only to realize a few minutes later that it was actually midnight. I use that bulb a lot in the winter. I've mounted it in a 18" diameter translucent white globe which hangs in a far corner between 2 windows. I was thinking of putting it on a switch and set an on/off schedule that is synchronized with the setting and rising sun. I bought a few more of those bulbs (incandescent) so I would never be without and I used one to make a second lamp for a friend. I've tried to create that same color with an RGB LED bulb but it wasn't even close. I do have lights that match the hue of the full sun at high noon, but those I use for photography and they don't have the same effect as the setting or rising sun.

What brand bulb is that?

They have no manufacturer info printed on them, not even voltage, wattage, or country of origin. They arrived in a white box with no printing. I bought them 5-6 years ago on eBay. It was advertised as a bug repelling bulb, but it wasn't even close to the hue of those florescent or incandescent bug bulbs sold in the stores. I remember seeing them in the eBay listing picture mounted above a backyard bar & grill in the evening. I was going to use it in a light above a back door but liked the hue so much I used it in the living room. Bugs don't seem drawn to it. I'm still using the first one I bought. If it actually doesn't attract bugs, I should use one above that back door to prevent bugs from getting in the house when people go in/out that door. There are lights on my RV that casts almost the same hue, at the door (light above the door and another to illuminate the steps) but they are regular white LED bulbs behind a colored plastic lens. Those lights do seem to keep flying intruders away from that door. You might be able to find the temperature of the hue of the setting/riding sun on the internet and then search for bulbs matching that temperature value (or combination of bulb+color-filter).
