While I appreciate the guy and his amazing intellect, he is equally biased towards a small clique of powerful people and companies who also want to control the narrative..

As far he is concerned both Brexit and Trump are threats to humanity that the EU is in fact the saviour of human rights, and the internet just simply do not ring true..

such a shame if he has kept himself unbiased perhaps his warnings would have some meaning rather than what seems like a "don't listen o that small powerful group over there listen only to this small powerful group here, they'll save you"

what about an p2p wireless internet?

...people have been talking about this since the time they shut down napster back in the late 90's.

This guy isn't to be trusted either though. He's always promising things and not following through.

As far as shutting down the internet it really can't be done so easy.

There are certain things like public wifi connecting networks together now. These systems can all be tethered together using it.

I still have access to xfinity routers whenever i'm near them and the systems connected to them.

OP is more about companies like Google having a monopoly on communications and selecting what people can and cannot see based on whoever brainwashed the CEO the best.

I'm glad people are coming to the understand now how much of a national security risk it is for any country to allow companies like Google to control what their entire population who goes on the internet is allowed to see.

For example allowing it to socially engineer demographics by making people think this is the definition of a white couple.
It's a global threat.

You really can not discuss anything bar in meme form can you!.. it really leave me pondering if this is/is not a bot account since you can not discuss the issues to hand..

you post great topics for discussion and then anything that does not meet your narrow agenda is plastered with memes...

How on earth do you win anyone on the fence over to your side if you do that? how do you convince anyone you are right, or to change their mind...

Poor showing...

As stated this is a man I admire and have done since I learned of his work (I got into computing in the late 1970s) and feel sad that he has taken the political stance he has, aligning himself with Blair and Branson...

For me that undermines anything he says... and since you are unable to discuss any of the interesting topics you post I shall refrain from bothering to comment on them, worthy topics they may be, but the whole response in meme form is rather tiresome and denotes a lack of belief, conviction or indeed passion for the topics you supposedly support..

it isn't a meme just because it requires reading
but sure it was reactance in image form.

does in no way invalidate it as a comment

...it was an observation in how you framed the proposition by targeting aspects of how your personal bias view the person making the proposition and not the proposition itself to discount their motives and artificially attack their argument and push it as an extreme proposal to be picked up and and sent further into circular fear bias obscurantist fantasy world

Lot's of OT BS on this thread...

never mind, whether you believe that Berners-lee "invented" the internet.

speaking of meme-power.... We might more correctly say that Berners-Lee implemented ideas and technology of quite a number of good folks and was chosen by his peers to take the hit for bringing the shibboleth into this realm. Like any good project leader should do.

or not, because your world cannot seem to make sense without buzz words, white lab coats, and expert opinions, and declaration of invention.... not to even get into the play three notes in succession and copyright it as a song...
or get sued by the guy who already did it...
so f*#k off m-kay

Ted Nelson did mange to write the word Hypertext in his Masters Thesis in 1965... and a whole shitload of people got excited about that...
well a pre-internet shitload anyway...
and no special thanks to any of them... not really... if they talk about things.. then what....white lab coats...

I like it.

I reminded me of this I read a while ago.

Quote: “A number of years ago, when I was a freshly-appointed instructor, I met, for the first time, a certain eminent historian of science. At the time I could only regard him with tolerant condescension.

I was sorry of the man who, it seemed to me, was forced to hover about the edges of science. He was compelled to shiver endlessly in the outskirts, getting only feeble warmth from the distant sun of science- in-progress; while I, just beginning my research, was bathed in the heady liquid heat up at the very center of the glow.

In a lifetime of being wrong at many a point, I was never more wrong. It was I, not he, who was wandering in the periphery. It was he, not I, who lived in the blaze.

I had fallen victim to the fallacy of the 'growing edge;' the belief that only the very frontier of scientific advance counted; that everything that had been left behind by that advance was faded and dead.

But is that true? Because a tree in spring buds and comes greenly into leaf, are those leaves therefore the tree? If the newborn twigs and their leaves were all that existed, they would form a vague halo of green suspended in mid-air, but surely that is not the tree. The leaves, by themselves, are no more than trivial fluttering decoration. It is the trunk and limbs that give the tree its grandeur and the leaves themselves their meaning.

There is not a discovery in science, however revolutionary, however sparkling with insight, that does not arise out of what went before. 'If I have seen further than other men,' said Isaac Newton, 'it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants.”

on this forum, and elsewhere, "on the net", even...

there are those who might read the bold text and deduce that Newton had inside information about the existence of GIANTS.

...I feel ya, friend.

the point is often misconstrued as a period.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the world wide web, has called for large technology firms to be regulated to prevent the web from being “weaponised at scale”.

Its called the "internet bill of rights" and it should be something that people support.

I can remember when "liberals" demanded peace and free speech and freewill and hated the government...

Now they lick government boots, demand others be silenced and cry for war.

You can't make this sh*t up

the fact that the internet social media websites are still be treated as personal property and not public utilities is a problem at this point.

it wasn't at first...but now that agendas are everywhere and the long arm of the state is flailing around...

Free speech must be mandated and protected on the internet...now.

I never try to silence anyone.

You are free to spew whatever you want all day long.

Clever people will see the stain of communism and will not drink that kool aid
