In the article a top climate scientists lends some levity - and reality - to the "climate change" issue

"Apocalyptic scenarios attributed to global warming are simply false and the human race will be able to accommodate whatever “climate change” throws at us, claims a remarkably sober new essay in Scientific American.
The essay, penned by John Horgan, the director of the Center for Science Writings at the Stevens Institute of Technology, analyzes two recent reports by “ecomodernists” who reject climate panic and frame the question of climate change and humanity’s ability to cope with it in radically new terms.

One of the reports, a work called “Enlightened Environmentalism” by Harvard iconoclast Steven Pinker, urges people to regain some much-needed perspective on climate, especially in the context of the overwhelming material benefits of industrialization.

Pooh-poohing “the mainstream environmental movement, and the radicalism and fatalism it encourages,” Pinker argues that humanity can solve problems related to climate change the same way it has solved myriad other problems, by harnessing “the benevolent forces of modernity.”

Separating himself from environmentalists who seem to detest modernity, Pinker asserts that industrialization “has been good for humanity.”"

I dunno, runaway global warming is a serious concern.

Not to mention the acidification of our oceans.

They are banking on humanity working together to solve any problems that arise. We can't even get our congress or house of representatives to work together, let alone different social groups, but a common enemy like climate change might change that I suppose.

The acidification scare has been proven wrong. Studies now show a great range of PH in ocean samples and animals and plants adapt well to them.

And of course global warming is a fraud from the get go. All you have to do is look at weather this year in the northern hemisphere and it's just cold and colder. Oceans have been cooling and now the atmosphere is back to temps before the El Nino.

5 * for sanity.

"Nothing is constant save change." Cicero

Better warmth than cold, sez me. The climate has always changed, is changing, and always will change, with or without humanity, which of course has SOME effect. If only from the Perfume of 7 1/2 billion people, if nothing else.

We need to, as it were, cease crapping on the carpet and clean up our living room. It's the only one we have.

And adapt, as always we have done.

Better warmth than another ice age, which, as I understand things, WILL return one of these days.

Edit: f-l-a-t-u-l-e-n-c-e was changed to Perfume? What? Why?

Consciousness is ubiquitous, and my destination is beyond the horizon.

Anyone who is telling you he can determine a global average temperature for a specific point in time with a decimal precision, is counting on you being so ignorant of science and math that you should be ashamed of yourself.

The fact that climate alarmists are telling you that they can do so for an entire year is like them spitting in your mouth, kicking you in your balls, banging your wife while laughing at you because they consider you such a complete f*cking moron, that you are beyond any hope. And if you believe in global warming, you are that sutpid.

....

Global warming is an alarmist tactic by the communists to steal away your freedom and create dependence on the almighty state. It is not a serious concern for anyone that has been around for very long. The weather changes....it always has, it always will. This planet has gone from "snowball earth" (completely encased in ice) to temperate forests at the poles...long before humans showed up on the scene and started stacking rocks and making fire.

The biggest threat to our oceans is over harvesting to feed the ever growing population of humans...oh and that little thing called Fukushima is not going to help with that one bit.

they are banking on humans NOT working together...why do you think we are drowning in identity politics and separation platforms? They want us at each other's throats. The minute we stop doing that and turn our attention on the asshats who are causing all the problems...they will be screwed.

That's is a bit of generalization. As a scientist he should at least see good and bad effects of industrialization. Not just in relation to global warming.

This last bit makes him sound like in it for the money.

The issue has been clouded by all the fake data and dishonest research about warming. It's possible that there is NO significant warming. It's also becoming clear that temperatures are not tracking CO2 levels.

I'm totally not a global warming crier, I just wanted to weigh in on the science of ocean apocalypse.

The more realistic concern than acidification, is what is believed to have caused the Permian event; that the warming of the surface water results in higher oxygen saturation at the surface, and lower saturation at the ocean floor. This results in fewer bottom feeding fish able to survive on the ocean floor. This results in runaway growth of anaerobic bacteria on the ocean floor. Many species of anaerobic bacteria produce hydrogen sulfide as a byproduct. The increase of hydrogen sulfide in the water very effectively kills the rest of the bottom feeding fish, allowing the anaerobic bacteria to multiply completely unchecked, until they cover every inch of the ocean floor. At this point most of the fish in that ocean will be dead, and hydrogen sulfide will continuously rise out of the ocean and accumulate in the atmosphere. Eventually, the sky turns green for a couple of lifetimes and 90% of everything dies. Anyone alive today should find that their arsehole puckers just a little when they picture a green sky, the same as it does when they see a snake or a big spider, since our genes tend to remember that which is threatening.

So I wouldn't discount the possibility that a warming ocean can wipe us all out rather quickly. The good news is we also have record of the CO2 levels being double what they are now with no direct harm to life.

So no, currently global warming isn't going to cause an ocean apocalypse. But it's something that becomes an unstoppable chain reaction under the right conditions, and we probably should figure out what those conditions are.

There you go again you lying son of a bit*h. Weather and ambient temperature has absolutely nothing to do with Climate Change and Global Heating

The heat goes into the ocean and the ocean passes it to the Atmosphere via water vapor. I told you that years ago and it is still true now.

We will all be dead inside of Five Years. Global Average Surface temperature will be up to 17 in about four years. Then you die and we will celebrate your passing with a few shots of Vodka..

So now to get speculative scientists
Back to drawing boards
And gathering new research material

Seems like if it ain't fear based studies

That's the same magazine that FIRED one of its own because they wouldn't cow-towe to their Global Warming agenda. Science was NOT allowed, only the opinion of the head haunchos that was the only acceptable belief.

The black belt used to be an ancient sea coast line. That's an indicator of how bad global warming could get.
