WATCH: CNN’s Blitzer corners Trump’s chief of staff for trying to downplay COVID failures

"On CNN Thursday, anchor Wolf Blitzer confronted President Donald Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows about his failure to follow public health guidelines and demonstrate leadership in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A study from Columbia University … found that anywhere from 130,000 to 210,000 lives potentially could have been saved over these past eight, nine, ten months with a more robust federal response,” said Blitzer. “Why did the president say just this week when he was asked what he would have done differently, he said not much?

“Well, I can tell you that if your study says that they can save 210,000 lives, I haven’t read it, but it would be very difficult to imagine that scenario … I don’t know that any scientist or any doctor would agree with that particular analysis,” said Meadows. “What we have here is a clock that keeps talking about the number of cases that we have. It really doesn’t talk about the advances that we need to make on the therapeutics, vaccines and treatment side of things.”

“Tell the president we would also appreciate if he would say what the former New Jersey governor, Chris Christie, said today,” said Blitzer. “He had COVID, too, as you know. Wear a mask. Don’t think this is a political statement or anything. Just go ahead and do it. And don’t have these rallies where people are just so close together and not wearing masks. It’s potentially a super-spreader. It’s so dangerous. You know that, Mark.”

“Well, well, with all due respect, the president has talked about wearing masks,” said Meadows. “They do pass out the masks. Here is another thing, Wolf—”

“He should be an example,” said Blitzer.

“Hold on. Let me — Wolf, let me finish my statement, then you can — we’ll go back and forth,” said Meadows. “The mask is not the panacea to make sure this doesn’t spread. Will it help in confined spaces? Certainly it helps … at the same time, we need to make sure we do follow the science. The president is encouraging us to do that. I encourage all Americans to do that. But we also need to understand that wearing a mask — if we could say we mandate masks and everybody can go back to work, then that would be something to consider. But even the doctors, even the most — even Dr. Fauci would say that that is not something that would protect all Americans.”"

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Trump lied at the debate last night,...again, saying the US was turning a corner and the covid-19 pandemic was going away, he is desperately lying to try to save his chances at re-election. Scream1

He doesn't care about the American people or he wouldn't be super spreading covid-19 in his rallies. Scream1

U.S. Sees Second-Highest COVID-19 Single-Day Spike On Record
With 76,195 new COVID cases on Thursday, the U.S. approached its one-day record high of 77,299 cases set on July 16.

CHICAGO - The number of new COVID-19 cases reported in the United States on Thursday was the second-highest on record, coming in just short of a midsummer peak as the spread of the novel coronavirus accelerates in nearly every region of the country.

Cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all accelerating as cooler weather descends on much of the country. With 76,195 new cases on Thursday, the United States was approaching its one-day record high of 77,299 new cases on July 16, according to a Reuters analysis.

Only India has reported more cases in a single day: 97,894 on Sept. 17.

U.S. deaths are also trending higher, with 916 fatalities reported on Thursday, a day after the country recorded over 1,200 new deaths for the first time since August. COVID-19deaths are up 13% from last week, averaging 785 a day over the past seven days.

At the same time, the number of COVID-19 patients in U.S. hospitals climbed to a two-month high. There are now nearly41,000 hospitalized coronavirus patients across the country, up34% from Oct. 1, according to a Reuters analysis.

North Dakota, with 887 new cases on Thursday, remains the hardest-hit state, based on new cases per capita, followed by South Dakota, Montana, and Wisconsin. In terms of sheer numbers, Texas reported the newest cases on Thursday with 6,820 new infections, followed by California with 6,365.

Eight states set new records for single-day increases in cases, an ominous trend that is prompting some governors to issue new restrictions, including on bars and restaurants in some parts of Illinois. Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Utah all reported their biggest daily increase in cases since the pandemic started.

Seven states reported record numbers of COVID-19 patients in the hospital: Iowa, Kentucky, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients in the Midwest reached 11,369 on Thursday, a record-high for the seventh day in a row.

Dr. Jeff Pothof, an emergency medicine physician at the University of Wisconsin Health in Madison, expressed worry about lack of compliance with public health measures in the state where some groups have challenged Democratic Governor TonyEvers’ COVID-19 restrictions in court.

“If we don’t get that and we have such tremendous prevalenceof COVID-19 in our communities, I don’t see a great way out ofthis,” Pothof said. “The picture isn’t rosy.”

The Northeast remains the one region of the county without a significant surge in cases, but infections are trending higher there, forcing Boston public schools to shift to online-only learning this week. Vermont is a bright spot with no hospitalized COVID-19 patients and 16 new cases on Thursday.

In New York state, which was devastated by the pandemic in the spring, movie theaters will open their doors to live audiences for the first time in months, albeit at 25% capacity and with restrictions. But in New York City, theaters would remain darkened for now, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo’sdirective.

Europe is also seeing a surge in cases and globally new infections hit a one-day record high of 423,290 on Wednesday."

Trump keeps lying saying we rounded the corner and covid is going away. Scream1

America’s Daily COVID-19 Case Count Hits All-Time High
A national upswing of cases threatens dire shortages of supplies, medical staff and hospital beds.

"COVID-19 infections in the U.S. hit more than 83,000 daily cases on Friday, the highest daily tally in the nation since the pandemic began.

The grim news followed President Donald Trump’s declaration Thursday at the debate with Democratic rival Joe Biden that America is “learning to live” with COVID-19 and that it’s “going away.”

The troubling surge threatens to bring the worst suffering from the disease to date. COVID-19 has claimed nearly 224,000 lives in the U.S. so far. Almost 8.5 million Americans so far have been infected.

The previous record of daily cases was on July 17, when 76,553 cases were reported. Those cases occurred in a relatively few hot spots. Just four states then (New York, California, Texas, and Arizona) accounted for more than 40,000 of the total.

Now the spread of the coronavirus is bad across the country, as positivity rates and hospitalizations surge and deaths climb. Some hospitals in the West and Midwest are already overwhelmed while they grapple with new cases.

One key way we got through previous waves was by moving health-care workers around. That’s just not possible when the virus is surging everywhere.
Eleanor J. Murray, epidemiologist at Boston University

In the past two weeks, 24 states have broken their single-day case records, The Washington Post reported. COVID-19 hospitalizations increased in 38 states over the past week. The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 had already risen 40% in the past month. Deaths have regularly surpassed 1,000 in recent days, and it’s expected the daily toll will climb higher."

Going into fall and then winter with the shorter days and colder temps, this is no surprise.
Why do you think flu season is in the winter?
We should have been maskless and open in the summer when our immune systems are getting the vitamin D boost and kept the vulnerable at home while the rest of us reached herd immunity during the best time of the year to do that.

You have already gained immunity, because you are still alive to talk about it, it is what nature does everyday, or are you now saying that there are unnatural inserts?

Good thing trump has done what he has done because now all 8 strains of Influenza have disappeared, the world has been cured, because in any country no influenza symptoms cases are being reported and no one is dying from the dreaded Influenza that takes millions every year, and even tb that took 2 million last year has disappeared, some say cancer, and heart disease are also way way down.

It was the plan your guy Fauci had earlier.
He's changed his tune since then.
The whole thing so far was to avoid overwhelming the medical industry, not save lives. That story seems to have changed too.
We were originally told not to wear masks so they would be available for the medical industry. That story seems to have changed now too.
The media and the leftists manage to bury the earlier information under a sea of changes. Guy needs to have a paper subsription and keep clippings to prove the time line these days though.
We were supposed to already have millions of deaths, only a couple hundred thousand if we did EVERYTHING right, but according to you Trump did everything wrong so there's that.

Dr. Fauci never suggested doing nothing which is what Trump current podiatrist fox news idiot Dr. is pushing. It is a stupid non-plan. There is no such thing as a herd immunity plan, it is just a death plan.

The plans put forward by Dr.s Brix and Fauci are critically trying to save the US medical system, save the lives of Dr.s and nurses and healthcare workers. That is super important to saving the most US lives over all.

The early models said if nothing was done there would be millions of US deaths and that is what Dr. Scott and Trump are pushing now do nothing and let people die.

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
If Trump had gotten the proper PPE manufactured at super low cost through the defense production act and used that PPE to supply the medial workers they would have all they need and so would the rest of us.

Trump just did nothing to save lives in this pandemic and he still lies about it every day. Scream1

Eight months into the pandemic, nurses say they still aren't getting the safety equipment they need
Salon spoke with nurses and other frontline workers who say their safety is threatened by negligent employers

"Since the start of the pandemic, around 635,000 Americans have been hospitalized for symptoms related to COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The massive hospital influx of COVID-19 patients in this span has taxed the American healthcare system, in particular nurses, who deal with the minute-by-minute needs of these hundreds of thousands of patients. Unfortunately, many of those nurses say they have not been receiving the help that they need in return.

According to a report released last month by National Nurses United, the largest organization of registered nurses in the United States, at least 213 nurses in the United States have died of COVID-19 and related complications since Sept. 16, nearly three-fifths of whom were nurses of color. (By contrast, just under one fourth of American registered nurses are people of color.) National Nurses United also told Salon that 232 nurses have died overall as of Friday.

The National Nurses United report also found that at least 1,718 health care workers have died of COVID-19 and related complications, including registered nurses; nearly one-third of the hospital health care workers who suffered this fate were registered nurses. Overall, their report found that there have been at least 258,768 cases of COVID-19 among health care workers, a number representing 166 percent of the 156,306 cases reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In other words, their report states that the CDC is underreporting them.

Nurses are noticing this, too. A survey released in July of more than 21,200 nurses nationwide found that only 24 percent of nurses believe their employer is making sure they have a safe workplace. Only 31 percent say that every patient is screened for COVID-19. 36 percent are afraid of developing COVID-19, and 43 percent are afraid that they will spread the disease to a family member.

The data is even more sobering when it comes to personal protective equipment, or PPE, with 87 percent of nurses saying they were required to reuse at least one piece of PPE at some point. Nurses also report chronic understaffing issues, with 27 percent of those who work in hospitals reporting that staffing has declined in recent months, even though the likelihood of patient death increases by 7 percent for every extra patient in a hospital nurse's workload.

"I'm so disappointed in our lack of preparation as a country for a pandemic," a nurse from Pennsylvania wrote to Salon. "N95s [a type of surgical mask with a respirator on it] quickly became sparse and we were forced to reuse them for days, basically until [they] broke, when they are intended per the manufacturer to be single/ one time use. We had to put them in a brown paper bag in between uses. Up until then we were to throw them away immediately after entering an airborne room. Face shields we wiped between uses [were] reused until they broke."

The nurse added that after the hospital where she works ran out of the larger 3M N95s, "those of us who were fitted for the large had to be fit for this thin, cheap 'duck bill' N95 which offered very little protection, but it was the only kind they were able to get." Nurses who did not pass the fit test for the new N95s, including the one who spoke to Salon, were told to wear "a PAPR — which is a whole face hood attached to airflow coming from a belt you wear. Hoods are supposed to be for one person and disconnected from the air/battery pack after use, cleaned with disinfectant and reused by THE SAME PERSON... but they didn't have enough hoods, so we had to share them which is disgusting and very poor infection control. We actually had some healthcare workers quit when they found out they would have to share hoods. I don't blame them."

Another nurse-midwife, also located in Pennsylvania, told a similar story."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Wow!

So Pence is the head of the Trump covid-19 task force and he is breaking task force rules by not self quantining after his chief of staff, who is around Pence all of the time, now has covid-19 infection along with others in Pence's staff offices. Scream1

The Pence office does not have authority to just decide what is essential and what is not on the fly based on what is best for Trump campaign efforts. Scream1

This is really flaunting health directives that Pence is supposed to be enforcing. What a dangerous potentially super spreading patriotically oriented sycophant - that Pence is. Scream1

Pence draws backlash claiming rallies are ‘essential’ government work despite aide testing positive for COVID-19

Vice President Mike Pence’s office announced that chief of staff Marc Short has tested positive for COVID-19, but his boss has no intention of leaving the campaign trail. It seems campaign events are considered “essential” government work.

“While Vice President Pence is considered a close contact with Mr. short, in consultation with the White House Medical Unit, the Vice President will maintain his schedule in accordance with the CDC guidelines for essential personnel,” Pence’s press secretary said in a statement.

Campaigns are not considered “essential” for the government under the CDC guidelines.

The comment drew backlash from those online questioning Pence’s safety traveling around the country and coming in contact with thousands of people.

This is insane: They are completely giving up on saving American lives and trying to slow the spread of covid-19, this is just lies and doing nothing.

‘We are not going to control the pandemic’: Trump aide Meadows makes confession during CNN interview

"White House chief of staff Mark Meadows waved the white flag on Sunday morning, admitting the administration has all but given up on trying to “contain” the coronavirus pandemic, saying they are directing their efforts to “vaccines and therapeutics.”

With “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper pointing cases of COVID-19 are on the rise, Meadows attempted to attack CNN over their coverage of the pandemic, to which Tapper replied, “It’s coming from all sorts of places because the pandemic is out of control.”

“So here’s what we have to do,” Meadows attempted. “We’re not going to control the pandemic. We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation”

“Why aren’t we going to get control of the pandemic?” Tapper pressed.

“Because it is a contagious virus just like the flu,” Meadows shot back with Tapper insisting, “But why not make efforts to contain it?”

“We are making efforts to contain it,” said Meadows at which point the CNN host interrupted with, “By running all over the country and not wearing masks? That’s what the vice president is doing.”

Saying the administration needs to focus on “therapies or vaccines or treatments,” Meadows then changed the subject to attacking presidential frontrunner Joe Biden.
