So Sad!
As was predicted and because of the massive super spreading from people gathering with families for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays,... the US is now seeing the largest number of daily deaths from covid-19.
U.S. tops 4,000 daily deaths from coronavirus for 1st time
"ORANGE, Calif. (AP) — The U.S. topped 4,000 coronavirus deaths in a single day for the first time, breaking a record set just one day earlier, as governors tried to ramp up the pace of vaccinations and open the line to elderly people and others.
The tally from Johns Hopkins University showed the nation had 4,085 deaths Thursday, along with nearly 275,000 new cases of the virus — evidence that the crisis is growing worse after family gatherings and travel over the holidays and the onset of winter, which is forcing people indoors.
Deaths have reached epic proportions. Since just Monday, the United States has recorded 13,500 — more than Pearl Harbor, D-Day, 9/11 and the 1906 San Francisco earthquake combined.
Overall, the scourge has left more than 365,000 dead in the U.S. and caused nearly 22 million confirmed infections. More than 132,000 people nationwide are hospitalized with COVID-19.
Britain, with one-fifth the population of the U.S., likewise reported on Friday its highest one-day count of deaths yet: 1,325. That brings the country’s toll to nearly 80,000, the highest in Europe.
Meanwhile, the number of Americans who have gotten their first shot of the COVID-19 vaccine climbed to almost 6.7 million Friday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a robust, one-day gain of about 800,000 after a slow start to the campaign.
The goal ultimately is to vaccinate hundreds of millions in the U.S., though health care workers and nursing home residents are getting priority in most places for now.
Faced with mounting criticism over the sluggish rollout, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Friday that starting next week, New York will allow a much wider swath of the public to get inoculated, including anyone 75 or older, teachers and first responders. New Mexico is likewise expanding eligibility to the elderly as well as people with certain underlying medical conditions.
In Arizona, a vaccination site will open Monday at the suburban Phoenix stadium where the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals play. State officials said it will be capable of vaccinating thousands of people each day. Oregon plans to dispense thousands of shots at the state fairgrounds in Salem this weekend with help from the National Guard.
In Utah, newly installed Gov. Spencer Cox unveiled a plan aimed at increasing the number of shots administered to 50,000 a week. He said he will issue an executive order requiring facilities to allocate their doses the week they are received.
”This virus does not sleep,” Cox said. “This virus does not take weekends off. And neither should we.”
The lethal surge is being driven in large part by Sun Belt states. California, Arizona, Texas and Florida together had nearly 1,500 deaths and 80,000 cases on Thursday and have been setting daily records this week, as have Mississippi and Nevada.
Many hospitals in Los Angeles and other hard-hit areas are struggling to keep up and warned they may need to ration lifesaving care. Nurses are caring for more sick people than typically allowed under the law after the state began issuing waivers to the strict nurse-to-patient ratios."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Trump is an idiot until the end.
Trump tried to lift COVID restrictions — but Biden transition shut it down
"During his final hours in office, Donald Trump issued a presidential proclamation decreasing coronavirus restrictions on foreign travel.
Trump announced he would rescind the travel bans to allow "the unrestricted entry into the United States of persons who have been physically present in the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom (excluding overseas territories outside of Europe), the Republic of Ireland, and the Federative Republic of Brazil" that would begin on January 26th.
However, the start date is after Trump's term ends and incoming White House press secretary Jen Psaki said it will not occur.
"With the pandemic worsening, and more contagious variants emerging around the world, this is not the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel," Psaki tweeted.
"On the advice of our medical team, the Administration does not intend to lift these restrictions on 1/26. In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures around international travel in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19," she announced."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Top story on Huffingtonpost currently:
Trump's Final Record: 400,000 Dead Americans.
The U.S. Just Hit 400,000 COVID-19 Deaths In Record Time
That’s more than 1 in 1,000 Americans dead from the coronavirus pandemic.
"400,000 Americans have died from COVID-19, according to a tracker from Johns Hopkins University.
That’s more than 1 in 1,000 Americans dead from a disease that other countries have nearly eradicated.
The number of deaths is equivalent to the entire population of New Orleans, Tampa or Tulsa, and then some. It’s more than 10 times the number of Americans who died from influenza in the 2018-19 flu season and nearly six times the country’s opioid deaths each year. In terms of fatalities, it’s equivalent to 134 terrorist attacks on 9/11.
Despite repeated claims from Donald Trump’s administration over the past year that the pandemic was under control and on its way out, the pace of deaths has only sped up in recent months. It took four months for the death toll to move from 100,000 to 200,000, then three more months for it to jump to 300,000. To reach 400,000 deaths, it took less than two.
People wait in line for COVID-19 antibody testing in Whittier, California, on Jan. 13.
The coronavirus has taken a particular toll on California in the late fall and winter. It’s been especially bad in Los Angeles County, where a surge in cases has left hospitals low on oxygen supplies and beds, forcing doctors to provide care in hallways, gift shops and tents outside while making impossible choices over who will receive treatment.
While the COVID-19 vaccine options have arrived and been shown to be safe and effective, the rollout across the country has been disjointed and inconsistent state by state. As its been with nearly all facets of the pandemic since March, the Trump administration has offered little federal guidance and handed vaccine distribution off to states and local health departments, which had little in the way of funding.
President-elect Joe Biden, who’s set to be sworn in to office Wednesday, has set a goal of giving 100 million shots in his first 100 days in office, though the pace will need to be twice that if the United States intends to reach herd immunity by summer.
There has been an average of 207,495 cases per day over the last week, which is a decrease of 7% from the average two weeks earlier but still among the highest case totals the U.S. has seen in the past 10 months. On Monday, at least 1,441 new coronavirus deaths and 142,587 new cases were reported across the country.
Among U.S. states, Arizona, California and South Carolina are recording the most alarming case counts. And among demographic groups, Black, Latinx and Native American people are each nearly three times as likely as white people to die from the virus."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Trump's huge Covid-19 failures are now comming fully into focus, Trump had no press conferences where questions could be asked in months, Trump didn't have any Covid-19 task force conferences for months, not any accountability and his white house team showed hostility when the Biden team attempted to get information on vaccination plans and protocols, now the incoming Biden team finds there was NOT ANY KIND OF A TRUMP PLAN!
Report: Biden Admin Discovers Trump Had Zero Plans For COVID Vaccine Distribution
"As they were settling into the White House on Wednesday, Biden administration officials were reportedly stunned to discover that President Joe Biden’s predecessor didn’t have a plan with regards to distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.
A source told CNN on Thursday morning that the new administration will “have to build everything from scratch” thanks to former President Donald Trump’s reported lack of strategy with the vaccine rollout.
“There is nothing for us to rework,” they said.
Biden will have to start from “square one,” said another source, who called Trump’s nonexistent distribution plan “just further affirmation of complete incompetence.”
CNN’s report followed the Biden COVID-19 team’s public remarks laying out how the new president will tackle the pandemic, which has now surpassed a death toll of 400,000 in the U.S.
Vaccine coordinator Bechara Choucair told reporters on Wednesday evening that the administration would create “community vaccination centers” run by federal officials as part of its goal to get Americans injected as quickly as possible.
The Biden team is aiming to reach 100 million injections within the first 100 days of the new presidency.
Additionally, the administration plans to issue federal guidelines to states on vaccine distribution."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Thank the stars that Trump is no longer in control of the nations covid-19 lack of response.
Having a real adult in charge is so refreshing after so much death and misery under Trump's huge fail of a covid-19 pandemic plan and lack of any real follow through other than funding the vaccine research. It is the getting the vaccine into arms that really matters and Trump completely failed at that, now Biden's team has to start from scratch.
But it is getting done.
Biden allows Dr. Fauci to finally speak the truth about the science of COVID-19
In his first White House briefing as President Joe Biden's top advisor on Covid-19, Anthony Fauci said it was "liberating" that he could focus on science without fear of repercussion now that Donald Trump had left office.
The top infectious disease scientist was briefing reporters Thursday on the state of the US outbreak that has claimed more than 408,000 lives.
Asked to compare his experience under the previous administration to the new one, the 80-year-old responded a little coyly at first, saying he wasn't sure he could "extrapolate" based on first impressions.
"But one of the things that was very clear as recently as about 15 minutes ago, when I was with the president, is that one of the things that we're going to do is to be completely transparent, open and honest.
"If things go wrong, not point fingers but to correct them and to make everything we do be based on science and evidence."
Toward the end of Thursday's briefing, Fauci was asked by another reporter to expand on his "jokes" about the differences in the management styles between the two leaders.
"I was very serious about it, I wasn't joking," he said, laughing.
"Obviously I don't want to be going back over history, but it was very clear that there were things that were said, be it regarding things like hydroxychloroquine and other things like that -- that really was uncomfortable because they were not based on scientific fact."
He added he took no pleasure in having to contradict the president and that "it was really something that you didn't feel that you could actually say something, and there wouldn't be any repercussions about it."
"The idea that you can get up here and talk about what you know. What the evidence, what the science is, and know that's it -- let the science speak -- it is somewhat of a liberating feeling."
Fauci's honest takes on America's failures to get to grips with its epidemic brought him into conflict with Trump, who repeatedly declared premature victory over the virus, equivocated on mask use and lockdowns, and pushed unfounded miracle cures.
Trump eventually banished the respected scientist from the White House and took to attacking him on Twitter."

RE: Desperate deeds: Trump's admin. panicked and Lying about Covid19 UPDATES:
Well this is so expected when you think about it after the fact, but it is sadly surprising that Trump was so committed to f*cking the American people and the incoming Biden administration. Trump is so egregiously horrible and detestable.
Biden acknowledges that Trump didn't buy enough vaccines to save Americans
"Former President Donald Trump announced last year that he was buying 100 million vaccinations from Pfizer and 100 million vaccinations from Moderna. At the time, it prompted questions from reporters who knew that the American population is over 330 million people and two shots are needed for the virus.
The predicament left incoming President Joe Biden to admit to Americans that there weren't enough vaccinations purchased. In an announcement to the press on Tuesday, Biden said that he would purchase at least 200 million more doses as soon as they're available. His goal, he said is to have the full amount needed by this summer.
In Dec. 2020, it was revealed that Trump was offered more vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna and refused them.
It's still unknown why the former White House refused to buy enough vaccines for all Americans.
