My only experience was more of an extended starvation to get faster for basketball as a young guy.

But this is more of a spiritual, mental, focus thought approach for me that I'm thinking about now. If that made sense.

So could you describe what you did or do?

Health benefits or detriments, mental or psychological impact.

Would you recommend it? Have a hybrid or eclectic approach?

RE: Fasters! Hey do any of you guys fast, or did so in the past?
So I cut out the booze for awhile and it had a rather significant overall influence on my daily life. I also had to fast recently for some lab work to do for the doctor.

One thing I've noticed when I eat I often become very tired.

My energy levels were pretty dang good for me after not eating. Was doing lots of work in the yard, feeling good for a geezer.

So I was thinking about trying my own version of a fast.

Day 1 Eat nothing. Drink plenty of water and coffee. Also Diet soda possibly (it helps me not drink and is a comfort thing).

Day 2 Fruit & vegetable juices. Still coffee and possibly an evening diet soda.

Day 3 Eat whatever I'd like. Not binge, just enjoy food once again.

I was thinking about trying that out for a month or so.

Hope someone can chime in, maybe you can give me some ideas, or perhaps concern not to do this.

RE: Fasters! Hey do any of you guys fast, or did so in the past?
i did it once for about 20 days
it was many years ago though

one thing i will say is that, if you want to do it for a long time
then make sure, when you want to eat again, that you re introduce
things back into your system gradually..
like, juices or something easy for your stomach to digest.
im not any expert on it.. but that is one thing i remember having
to do after so long.

Just Plain Nuts.

Diet soda?

Not good cause of the aspertame, there are other diet sodas that are made with stevia, go with those.

I have no idea if it is true, but heard in ww2 some of the POW's or concentration camp people got ill from stout meals for awhile after getting out of that mess.

So I take it you just ate a little bit over 20 days? How'd you feel overall while doing this?

Maybe eventually. But it helps me not drink alcohol. I can sit outside with my wife and relax or goof off on the computer.

But yeah I could find a substitute I suppose. Not sure what that would be though.

Maybe try intermittent fasting first before you dive right in to a long fast.

RE: Fasters! Hey do any of you guys fast, or did so in the past?
I've been on an intermittent fast for several years now. That means my eating hours are limited to about 8 hours {11AM-7PM}. I'm also on a gluten free, dairy and egg free diet. The fasting part is mostly when sleeping.

I lose about half a pound of weight a week. It's slow and easy to do. The weight stays off. I've taken off about 60 pounds and feel great.

Something similar is the sunup to sundown intermittent fast. That one doesn't restrict what you eat, only when you eat. No requirements for added activity.

I've been IF for years, love it. I really don't set a particular time, just eat when I feel like it. Sometimes 16, 18, 20, 24 hours.......just depends how I feel that particular day.
I'm in my 50's and feel like I'm in my 30's. Trbtjrjq

The longest I've gone is 3 days in a row, I think. 3 or 4.

I did 3 days a week monday/wednesday/friday for a long time and that helped me lose weight. I'm having a hard time doing it now because I feel stressed out from the shutdown. So I've been gaining the weight back.

Wow 60 pounds?

I know a guy who has gluten issues, like everything we ever want to eat when we go out he cannot have.

That's too restrictive for me for when I do eat.

So hours only eating. Interesting.

Yeah my exercise notions would just include yard work, perhaps short walks and some old man weights, nothing serious.

Here’s one option.

https://www.zevia.com/

Stevia (plant-based sweetener)

I'm not familiar with that. Can it get close to a sort of cola feel? It doesn't have to be identical. But close.
