What is methyl hydrate used for?

It's used as a solvent, paint thinner, fuel additive, antifreeze and much more. Methyl hydrate is just another name for methanol.

Oh, ok thanks.

Effect of acetone in the culture medium on the regeneration efficiency and on the resistance to root rot of regenerants of various plant species

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF00233064

"Various expiants of wheat, onion, garlic, and cabbage were examined for their regeneration efficiency in the presence of acetone in the culture medium. Acetone at concentrations between 1.5% and 3.0% (w/v) was shown to increase the degree of callusing and meristem formation, as well as the capacity to regenerate. It also significantly increased the survival and regeneration efficiency of expiants inoculated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens, a bacterium known to reduce expiant viability. Resistance to root rot disease, caused by Helminthosporium sativum, was also increased. Thus acetone in the culture medium increases regeneration efficiency on selective media and under other stressful growth conditions."

Kinda speculative stuff...but suggests it *could* help with stress.

Especially with relation to marijuana, there's an interesting yeast (yarrowia lipolytica) that produces significantly higher amounts of citric acid with acetone (like orders of magnitude) and is involved with processes of lipids and such too. And with acetone being sort of simple and well tolerated in general, necessary for the flavonoids, terpenes, etc...could be some potential uses.

Here's some random product using potassium acetate, https://www.nachurs.com/bio-k/

With some sort of superposition, it's lonely at the bottopom.

Just picked up a jug of 99% methanol. As soon as this rain clears I will test a bit on a few leaves of all plants in the garden, after testing on one sacrificial plant for general toxicity. Then, if all goes well, I will treat each plant fully.

I'd imagine the best way to test would be with fast sprouting/growing plants and since the effects early on would be more significant it could be very cost effective/simple. It would very likely quickly reach a point of diminishing returns after a few applications, like you'd get 80% of the possible beneficial results from a few applications.

I mean, a couple of ml of methanol every week or so is practically nothing.

I'd test seeds soaked vs unsoaked in methanol, try soil drench, etc (other than the obvious foliar sprays).

With some sort of superposition, it's lonely at the bottopom.
