Haven't hosted a table top session in a few weeks, but just picked up an interesting game.

Darkest Dungeon

It's turn based, got a retro feel, sort of a Lovecraft theme. The music and commentary are fantastic, the story line dark.

And, perma death.

The game is stressful. Right now I don't have anyone in the graveyard, but that was not the case on earlier runs. Seriously, one or two mishaps and see ya.

Right now it is $6.24 on sale at steam.

Also the game has negative psychological impacts on the adventurers, like if you went to war or something, is a big part of the game.

The game will straight up tell you that often you must make the best decision out of two bad ones, that death is permanent and you will fail quests.

Think you could play this one for 100 hours the way things are going right now. But it can be a stressful game.

I dunno about Steam, but I just dug out my old MtG decks for a few games before the new block comes out.

How small it would have been from the beginning!

I never got into those. Some of the guys at the gamer shop I was hanging out with would play miniature games like Warhammer, but don't recall seeing MTG played.

I've got to get off my ass and design more rpg stuff for our table top games, some of my friends have been busy and it's a pain in the ass to have to host every time.

But I should put some time in.

How many people have you been able to play with?

We have 4, a 5th is unreliable, and occasionally 4 with my kids & wife for a different game.

I did a bit of Warhammer as a kid, but it went no further than that. Gave up halfway through building an undead army. I enjoyed Space Hulk for a time.

MtG is good fun over a couple of drinks. It's just a complex, fantasy top trumps. Most often we play one on one, but we do 4 player variants too. I've done a couple of launch tourneys, they're always fun if you can deal with the sweaty shop setting.

It can get expensive to stay current though, like Warhammer.
You can find yourself dropping an awful lot of money, considering it's just cards.

I play Monopoly every once in a great while.

For anyone interested, you need flash, a basic/ghetto Monopoly game here.

I don't like it very much but there are some "strategy card" games cheap out there. My buddy tried to get me into them, he plays with his kids...

Let me see have a pack around here somewhere..

Ok found one.

Some of the gamer shops have stuff like that. But maybe you'd want a zombie one, or general fantasy etc...

If you had enough people to play with.

The unreliable guy who sometimes plays D&D with us has actually published a few games, the box set random games you'd see in a gamer shop.

Think he sold the rights to one for 6-7 grand. But he's hard to hang out with, his life is crazy, seriously. Never know what he is up to these days besides trouble.

Posters?

Or pets?

I'll assume pets.

Just one dog here, but I really rewarded & encouraged desirable behavior early, and his is extremely obedient. I put him to work, he's a watch dog, from birds, squirrels, or any vermin pest that goes the fence line or power cords.

Only problem is trying to get my visiting company to wait an hour or so and let him relax, cause he is a bite risk. He's fine after that, but he's got a job here.
