Honest shop sign: this is the sign of our times...

seen today in London..

https://twitter.com/ClarkeMicah/status/1...3861821440

the true numbers coming through seem to indicate in some areas we are seeing a 95% reduction in sales even now the shops are open... we are seeing this in hotels, restaurants, cafes....

how long we can mask over the issue? I personally would say around 4 weeks tops...

RE: Honest shop sign: this is the sign of our times...
You know what else I have noticed lately, that really disturbs me, using a debit card, everything is now showing up as pre-auth debits. For those that do not know, whomever you are doing business with - their banks are putting an extra charge on, until your payment clears, which makes no sense to me at all. If somebody does not have funds on their debit card, how is a pre-auth charge going to be paid?

Once the transaction does go through, it goes back down to the original amount, but I had one take over five days, which means theoretically people could end up in the red if they use their debit cards often enough with a low balance, and not being careful. It's like getting an overdraft fee before you overdraft.

I also, in addition to getting bank alerts, use a checkbook register to log every transaction I make to avoid this sh*t. Many people just through their receipts away without even noting this stuff.

I'm not buying anything I don't really need right now because of this kinda underhanded, sneaky crap. Retailers, and service providers should be upfront in telling people they are doing this sh*t! At least in the U.S.

There is a lot of that going on and a lot of underlying charges appearing.. like you am not buying anything I do not need to...

I am just concerned how much longer we can mask how dire the real situation is...

Have been looking for the data I can find, and the bits I have come across, Cyprus, Spain, US, Germany etc seem to indicate the strong economies on a min 10% GDP decline and the weaker Western ones on a 20% GDP decline without a disastrous summer to contend with...

Am thinking this is going to be a Winter of Rage and discontent..

Well, may be a true statement, but people need money to buy things and unemployment is still unbelievably high and the whole economy is limping along like a turtle with gout.

The honest cop does notice a distinct lack of “your immediate attention” in this particular advertising. I do hope all business can handle their custom then support.

the numbers I see coming through we can probably mask this for a few more weeks... there has been no real uptick in spending and in a lot of places it is sitting between 5-10% of normal... nothing can survive on 5-10% of normal revenue..

the truth will out..... by September as the Summer numbers are horrific.. the aid package the EU has put together will do nothing to stifle protest... how anyone keeps a mask on this I have no idea...

That is true, but quantitative easing was propping the whole thing up even back before covid when most people still say the economy was good.
