it's only hot on the surface, higher up not so much:

.....
Atmosphere
Venus' atmosphere consists mainly of carbon dioxide, with clouds of sulfuric acid droplets. The thick atmosphere traps the Sun's heat, resulting in surface temperatures higher than 880 degrees Fahrenheit (470 degrees Celsius). The atmosphere has many layers with different temperatures. At the level where the clouds are, about 30 miles up from the surface, it's about the same temperature as on the surface of the Earth.

we have organisms on earth living under very similar conditions
some even inside our digestive system as symbionts

And at 30.76 miles above Venus surface pressure = 1 atm, blimp world here we come!

Jhikpghf cloud cities! Pmqgpgfh

If you are flying 50 km over the surface of Venus you will be experiencing 1.066 atm (earth atmospheres) and approximately 75 degrees farenheit. Anybody want to go blimp with me?

also almost earth gravity
and shorter travel time to Venus than to Mars, much shorter
lot more travel windows too
a colony could actually get supplies and help from earth
colonists would be able to return to earth, not a one way trip like Mars

Just did a half hour of googling and I'm now thinking we can produce our own water and oxygen in situ on venus. I was a flunky in Chemistry so shoot me down if need be. Seems oxygen can be extracted from CO2 by electrolysis. And sulphuric acid (H2SO4) reacts with
five metals (sodium, potassium, lead, iron and zinc) producing hydrogen gas. Finally, the oxygen and hydrogen gases can be converted to water by burning. Needs a power source.
