10 Years Later and I Still Can't Believe RUBICON Got Cancelled
Advertisement
There were 3 shows on AMC that year when Rubicon Premiered

-- Rubicon
-- Mad Men
-- Walking Dead

So AMC cut their losses and cancelled Rubicon and the rest is history.
10 years later folks are still talking online about what a bummer it was to lose.
I just rewatched it all again for the umpteenth time and it's so darn good.

It was likely an analogy for 9/11 that struck a little too close to home.
The Intel Community manipulating data for profit.
Which is why folks say it got cancelled.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

The Time Is Right to Rediscover Rubicon

[Image: 0a848269dc5629173f200b04720d8758bb-26-ru...l.w700.jpg]

Nine years ago, AMC was riding an original programming high. After trying to
compete with Turner Classic Movies at its own game for over two decades, the
veteran cable channel developed two flagship original dramas that would define their
era of television. Mad Men and Breaking Bad were well on their way to cresting their
creative peaks in 2010, which meant it was time for AMC to expand its programming
lineup in hopes of a three-peat. What would be its next groundbreaking series?

Enter Rubicon, an espionage drama inspired by ’70s conspiracy thrillers—The Parallax
View, Three Days of the Condor, The Conversation, and All the President’s Men are
the big influences — with updated post-9/11 anxiety. Created by Jason Horwitch, the
series follows Everyman intelligence analyst Will Travers (James Badge Dale) whose
investigation into the mysterious death of his mentor David Hadas (Peter Gerety)
leads him to discover a shadowy cabal of elites who use data from his employer,
private intelligence agency API (the American Policy Institute), to manipulate global
events for profit. Rubicon immersed its viewers in an all-too-familiar paranoid
environment. Someone is always watching. Danger lurks behind every corner. No one
can be trusted.

RE: 10 Years Later and I Still Can't Believe RUBICON Got Cancelled

'Rubicon' is cancelled by AMC: Big mistake, AMC!

AMC has announced the cancellation of Rubicon after its first season.

Here’s the network’s statement: “Rubicon gave us an opportunity to tell a rich and
compelling story, and we’re proud of the series. This was not an easy decision, but
we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a phenomenally
talented and dedicated team.”

This is bad news for those of us who became enthralled by Rubicon‘s intricate tale of
a small cadre of government data system analysts led by James Badge Dale. Yes, the
first few episodes were slow going, and doubtless were responsible for many viewers
giving up early, resulting in low ratings.

Fans Strike Back at AMC's Rubicon Cancellation

This is a real shame, readers. It seems that, today, AMC put its third original series,
Rubicon, to rest. Rubicon was my favorite new show of the fall season, and was
really the only one that didn’t disappoint me. I was deeply engrossed for the thirteen
weeks that it was on the air, and with the finale, I was anxious to see where the dries
went from there. It was ambitious, smart, and risky programming, and it only
managed to gather a small, cerebral group of viewers each week, though it’s ratings
seemed to be fairly consistent.

It’s safe to say that The Walking Dead is the reason for Rubicon‘s cancellation, as
strange as it sounds. While I love both shows, it seems likely that the huge ratings
for the new show’s first two episodes showed the network just how inadequate
Rubicon‘s viewership was. It just doesn’t strike me as coincidental that the network
waited until The Walking Dead gained its footing to cancel its other new series.

Rubicon will forever remain a gem in my eyes.
