lol...I actually think "Star Trek V: The Undiscovered Country" is pretty underrated. I know Shatner's budget was gutted before production, and many of his ideas had to be compromised.

I believe the ending has a lot to say about the avarice of modern day "false prophets", like televangelists or "faith-healers", who proclaim to claim to be speaking on behalf "of God" (or God Himself...) but are just dime-a-dozen con men.

"Why does God need a starship?", indeed. That's quality debunking on the part of Captain Kirk.

So I found another large dish.... I guess it's the largest in the world and it's in China.
It's coined Arecibo on steroids.

It’s now the biggest single-dish radio telescope on Earth. Settled down in the bumpy karst of China’s Guizhou province, about 1200 miles southwest of Beijing, this newest instrument for studying the heavens is very similar in design to the famed Arecibo dish, renown both for its science accomplishments and its performance in two popular films, “Contact” and “Goldeneye.”

"Very similar in design," who keeps giving away our tech?

Listened to the story of it on NPR.
An absolute sadness.

If this wasn't a scam, because they have found something in space, the Insurance Company would simply build another one !!!!!!!

It's actually had a good innings considering its built all that time back in 1960 in a unfavorable tropical environment for the design and has been subjected to floods, typhoons, tropical storms, and quakes. Time to retire the ol' girl.

Star Trek: The Original Series presented an entirely unique world to dazzled audiences in the 1960s. Each week, we discovered new aliens, distant green planets, future technology and the complex workings of the Federation.

Naturally, this meant a ton of props and sets had to be built, for not very much money. The production crew did a brilliant job, led by creative whizzes like set designer and art director Walter M. Jefferies. The production could turn garbage into gold — literally, they would sometimes dig through the trash at Desilu Studios for discarded materials to repurpose.

You can spot lots of clever little details if you know where to look. The crew even hid some little in-jokes to amuse themselves. Here are some of our favorites.

Here's a list of radio telescopes on Wiki:

I can drive to a fairly big one in 20 mins or so, just down the road..

That Klingon GIF is seriously unsettling. Nightmare fuel.

Since I've had virtually nothing to do since mid-March, and especially now that everything is getting lockdown crazy again, I've had a lot of time to watch a lot of films.

And a lot of TV.

I started watching "Star Trek: the original series" about a month ago. I'm a few discs into season 1. It's pretty great.

The perfect healthy distraction from....everything right now.

You folks need to watch the movie Supercollider (1993) if you haven't already.

THEN

GOOD WORLD ON TOP - ruled by EVIL OBAMA attempting to FLIP IT TO EVIL!
___________

NOW

EVIL WORLD ON TOP - ruled by GOOD TRUMP attempting to FLIP IT TO GOOD!

Obama was THE DEVIL overturning and destroying Gods Good world.
We hated him!

Then the world (FOR REAL) FLIPPED TURNED UPSIDE DOWN!

The WHOLE WORLD turned from GOOD into EVIL
Trump is a Good Man in charge of destroying The Devils Evil world.
