Holding Trump's impeachment trial after he is out of office is unconstitutional

Quote:Michael Luttig, a former judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post on Tuesday arguing that holding Trump’s impeachment trial after he is already out of office is unconstitutional.

“It appears that even if the House of Representatives impeaches President Trump this week, the Senate trial on that impeachment will not begin until after Trump has left office and President-Elect Biden has become president on Jan. 20,” Luttig writes. “That Senate trial would be unconstitutional.”

Best be quick about it then.

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

H.L. Mencken 1920.

A lawyer speaks..

There is precedent for impeachment out of office apparently.

You can impeach a sitting president...not a former president.

But since when does democrat filth follow the law or the constitution?

Dumbass Pay attention trump is a sitting president and was impeached (his term is not over till the 20th).
The senate will vote to convict and they can do it after he leaves office, it was first done/used after the civil war on a traitorous judge.

IP banned and now unbanned just a couple of hours later.
Fancy that.
You say Nu-Uh but post nothing to back up your statement.

What's the punishment for impeachment and conviction?

Quote:Article 11, section 4 reads, "The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors,"

He'll already be out of office.
It's just sour grapes, can't be anything else.

RE: Holding Trump's impeachment trial after he is out of office is unconstitutional
The dems are wanting to whitewash their first impeachment attempt.
It failed, mostly because it was based upon nothing.

Now, when feelings are high, they want a second bite of the apple.

They and the rinos are terrified of trump because he is "the people's president" and they can't control him with the usual stuff they get/put on people.

Dick cheney (one of the "smart" people dumya bush listened to, thus setting off the eighteen year war in the m.e. which caused massive harm to the world) has a daughter leading the effort to what? whitewash dad's reputation.

Trump wants to end that mess, and he, along with his son-in-law jared kushner, negotiated peace treaties with arab countries and israel, which should earn Trump a nobel peace prize.

This is another reason why the dems and the rinos are terrified of trump.
He did all this without them. And it was probably the only way it got done.

Donald trump is an heroic figure in a soup of craven self-interested
blow-hards.

He is not an elegant speaker, but his aim is true.
