Why is there only a thin band of topsoil around the Earth ?

Why is it so thin and why dont we find layers of topsoil , hundreds of feet down as erosion etc covers it up during cataclysms etc ?

Erosion.
Big rocks get broken into small rocks.

God damn you f**kers are stupid.

Wow. Grind up some rocks and it will be provide all the nutrition etc for vegetation to grow - next time I’m watering my plants I must remember to throw abit of sandstone or quartz on there to make sure I get good bloom...............that called sediment you bafoon and no there is no nutrient value to sediment. It is organic matter mixed in that creates nutrition. But again where did it all come from.

Come on people.

Dust - capable of vegetative growth - that comes from the breakdown of organic matter.

Reason I asked is I know the answer............anyone seen Avatar. That was once Earth well the gigantic trees anyway. A meteor crashed into Earth. Destroyed Earths atmosphere. Mass petrifaction took place and all that wood turned to stone. It weathered and withered. This petrified wood that turned to stone. It is organic rock. If you break petrified wood down to a powder and sit in water a certain type of algae begins to grow.

Get yourself on Google Earth and look at all the mountain ranges. Now take a walk outside and find a nice big oak or beech and look at it’s root structure...........how can something look so similar yet the method of creation is suppose to be very different.

Druidism especially historic Druidism is an interesting rabbit hole people. If it’s something you have never looked into before please do.

Most important thing is read up on why they erased all or almost all traces of the Picts.

I guess you are actually too dumb to know rock dust is a good addition to your soil.
There are many minerals that are essentiall for life.
You likely think they come from the grocery store inside vitamins and don't know they're are actually "rocks" in there... lol

Ahhh giant tree idiot.
Not gonna waste any more time on you.

But where did the soil come from to grow those ancient giant trees?

It didn’t. It grew in a sort of hydrophonic environment.

Lol.

Rock dust is a good addition to soil...........you don’t say. It allows aeration you plonker.

And again if the soil came from rock dust why would you need to add it - sort of contradict yourself there genius.

Or are you referring to perlite - adds water retention and aeration.
Calcium carbonate / limestone - neutralises acidity

Now explain igneous rock - some iron and silicates

Metamorphic - now these started out as organic so bring us back to the initial query.

Now forget life, vegetation, gases and elements.

Where did the billions of tons of soil come from.
Now vegetation rots but for that vegetation to grow in the first place it cannot grow on bare rock. Today we get moss etc growing on rock but these are simply spores floating around that settle then breed but again these spores come from vegetation.

At first it grew in the water. Everything grew in the water. Soil came from volcanic ash, volcanic rock, rocks grinding against each other and weathering and living things composting.

Dust won't help with aeration nor will sand.
You need to actually move the soil to do that. Like worms in grubs do.

The OP was asking about before life began. You may want to ignore that fact so you can pretend you're smart by being stupid. Soils are not all equal. Some are nearly 100% organics. Some nearly 100% inorganic. Some would do better with adding organics. Some with sand. You can oversimplify to think you're scoring points but you just look stupid.

Metamorphic rocks did not come from organics. Might want to Google that because I am not wasting my time.

Lots of trial and error. It came from people just like your self. It came from snails, frogs, fish, even plastic.
