California's Farms Face Serious Labor Shortage

Farms across the state are facing a serious labor shortage — 9 in 10 farm workers in California are foreign-born, many from Mexico. According to the PEW Research Center, more Mexican immigrants are leaving the U.S. than arriving.

The harvest begins in July and there are not enough workers to pick it up ... Crops are going to rot
UNBELIEVABLE

It's a catch 22.

The farms don't pay enough for people to live on. If they did, your food bill would sky rocket.

But that doesn't make it ok to allow illegals in

There are so many socio-econimicail problems in California that this is but a symptom.

The rot started a long time ago.

Farmers Brace For Labor Shortage Under New Immigration Policy

https://www.agweb.com/article/farmers-br...ted-press/

Central Valley farmer Harold McClarty of HMC Farms, who hires a thousand workers at harvest time, said there is no replacing the human hand for picking the 50 varieties of peaches he grows. His workers pick a single tree five or more times, making sure the fruit they take is ripe.

"We haven't found any machines that can do anything like that," he said. "You can't just pick the whole tree."

RE: California's Farms Face Serious Labor Shortage
Very few illegals are working in agriculture because there isn't enough money in it for the hard labor. Illegals have moved on to higher paying jobs in construction or landscaping or finding other jobs like working in restaurants.
