US COVID cases to enter fourth wave, despite mass vaccination

A deadlier variant, vaccine complacency and virus fatigue is creating a deadly storm, which is threatening to throw the US into a crushing fourth surge of cases.

The United States may be leading the world in vaccination rates, but escalating COVID-19 figures indicate the country may be headed for its fourth and most deadliest surge yet.

Cases are once again surging in a numbers of states, which are now battling the deadlier and more transmissible B117, or UK, variant.

Vaccine complacency and virus fatigue is also at play, with the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Rochelle Walensky issuing a plea to the nation to “just please hold on a little while longer”.

“Now is one of those times when I have to share the truth, and I have to hope and trust you will listen. I’m going to pause here. I’m going to lose the script, and I’m going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom,” she said, during a virtual White House briefing on Monday.

“We have so much to look forward to, so much promise and potential of where we are and so much reason for hope. But right now, I’m scared.”

A fourth wave of the coronavirus infection has started in the United States as new strains are becoming more prominent, epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm, who served as a member of US President Joe Biden's COVID-19 transition advisory board, says.

"We seem to be in a cycle of regional activity and right now the upper midwest is lighting up with the northeast, and it won’t be long before the rest of the country will be following behind," Osterholm told Fox News on Sunday.

Asked whether the current spike in infections could be considered a "fourth wave," Osterholm said he believed so.

"I believe that, in some ways, we're almost in a new pandemic," the epidemiologist said, adding that "The only good news is that the current vaccines are effective against this particular variant B.1.1.7. [British strain.]"

It's the British plague coming to get the Americans, just don't mention that virus that came from China, that would be racist/xenophobic and just plain wrong.. (British plague is trade marked by NYT)

The problem for Americans is the New York one, which is a granddaughter variant, as it the daughter of the Kent, Brazil, South Africa variants.. you have to wonder at the poor person in whos body those 3 combined..

I wonder if American media will rant about that the way they carried on and on at how disgusting the British where to allow the British plague to appear..

The polio vaccine did nothing, the end of using DDT was why polio ended.
