Diet for a warring population; dominated by meat
Diet for a healthy population; dominated by fish
Diet for a spiritual population; dominated by pulses and vegetables

This is cool.

RE: Ideal human diet?
I'd say Let's go for BUGS!!

comparison:
Beef = 40% edible
Pork = 55% edible
Chicken = 55% edible
Bugs = 80% edible

Beef: 10kg of food = 13,000L of water
Pork: 5kg of food = 4,000L of water
Chicken: 2.5kg of food = 3,000L of water
Bugs: 1.7kg of food = 13L of water

WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD, WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS PRODUCTS, NOT THE CREATURES THEMSELVES.
We need something that we call ‘nutrients’. Plants get these nutrients from soil or air, but we need to ingest ‘stuff’ that contains these nutrients so that our digestive system can break the ‘stuff’ down and work the rest of its ‘magic’. These nutrients transform our bodies, allowing us to grow, and live (energy). From tissue generation to movement and heat production, these nutrients are our fuel.

RE: Ideal human diet?
There is no one singular diet fit for all humans.

Your cultural ancestry has a big role to play in your dietary needs. One has to take into account that one's ancestors lived in an area where geology lead to specific chemical/elemental compositions and had climates that lead to specific plants being raised.

Then one has to take into account their genes. Some people just can't hack milk, others can thrive on it. Some people can digest wheat, other's can't.

A lot of health issues over time are caused by minor sensitivities to specific foods.

Obesity is not an issue of eating too much per se, it is an 'allergic reaction' to things like High Fructose Corn Syrup, Added Fats, etc. that in turn leads to a hunger that cannot be filled.

The "ideal" diet for any one person ultimately boils down to the person. Just like medicine should be tailored to the individual, not the the species as a whole.

By the Grace of God....
