SpaceX readied a Falcon 9 rocket for takeoff Monday to launch a planet-hunting satellite for NASA that will monitor the light from countless stars to find potentially habitable planets worthy of follow-up studies by more powerful ground- and space-based observatories.

The Falcon 9 rocket slated to launch NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite is standing vertical at pad 40 this morning after an overnight rollout in preparation for liftoff
at 6:32:07 p.m. EDT (2232:07 GMT).

Gotta admit, I'm not a fan of SpaceX (unlike many of my fellow astronomy-nerds) because I'm uncomfortable with the possible advent of the privatization of space and/or space travel (a likelihood...), BUT...this planet-hunting satellite is very very cool.

The technology's advancing by leaps and bounds.

Exciting stuff.

What kind of planet are they searching for? Is it the size of Jupiter and not tied to a single sun? Do the Annunaki live there?

Considering the risks from sh*t like this:

Massive asteroid big enough to 'destroy a city' skimmed by yesterday

Are they really looking for "extrasolar planets"?

And if they are, considering sh*t like that, why?
