I mean, I know you think you know, and that has value, but how do you really know?

I know, different faith systems always think they have the awnsers, and claim to know truth, I get that, but the people who refuse belief systems have the same faith in what that think they know.

Just how do you believe you know anything?

That's faith in belief.

Your belief, your truth.

Problem with that is you have to convince others to maintain it.

So tell me how you know what you know.

This could actually result in a legitimately interesting conversation.

If we're talking about faith within the context of religion and spirituality, I personally stray away from going about as if I "know" anything.

For instance, I'm a practicing Catholic, and so I have my "faith", but if someone tasked me with proving how I "know" God is "real" I'd just shrug and let it slide. Because it's impossible to know. That is, literally, the nature of faith. It transcends "proof".

And I believe, within the context of faith, thinking you DO "know" anything can be REALLY toxic, because it can lead to fundamentalism. Such as: "As a Christian, I know that Muslims are wrong and Islam is evil because I know it says so in the Bible."

That's ^^^^ when faith becomes corrupt and f**ked up.

I don't think the point of faith is to "know" anything. I think maybe (?) the point of faith is simply to be closer to God. And only God knows everything. We just follow along, hopefully close behind, on His path. But we can never "know" what He knows. I really don't understand why people try. I think it has something to do with pride...

As for "what do you know" within an empirical context, that sounds a lot like phenomenology, which is a philosophical question that can go on and on, lol...It's a rabbit hole that goes deep, and I'm not sure how to even begin.

If we're talking within a "what do you know about the world and how it works", such as world events in the present day, that's more a discussion about media and education.

I cling to my objectivity as much as possible, and I look at various media entities across the political spectrum. I reject intellectual relativism, this idea that facts are allegedly don't exist; I believe facts absolutely do..

The problem is spin. How are facts spun?

Spinning a fact doesn't lessen WHETHER it's a fact. It just drastically changes the fact's context.

Interesting topic.

Just forgive me for being "skeptical".

I haven't.(Studied the religious texts much)

My dad was the more knowledgeable person, and I never learned most of what he knew.

But he introduced me to his way of looking at things based on anthropology.

He learned salvage linguistics from a Catholic Missionary.

At the time he was earining his doctoral degree he wanted to know how to learn a language from scratch "if he fell out of an airplane over the Amazon"

Catholic missionaries had linguists who were the best at that.

And the one who taught him was okay with him being agnostic.

chuckle

So as a Kid, instead of beating Jesus into me, what my father did was tell me ghost stories when we camped in his tepee.

chuckle

And when me and my sister asked how that related to the scary stories his mother told us about Hell....he provided clues.

The stores he told us were European Christian mostly Ghost/spooky stories, and really great scary ghost stories he learned from that Catholic missionary....

chuckle

Kids like spooky stories,

They don't like being told they are going to HELL for no reason by adults who can't explain their own FAITH.

Sounds like a wise man.

I dont push my faith on my kids either.

I give them hints to find it.

He was a great teacher.

As his only son most of it went in one ear out the other to his chagrin.

chuckle

(I may have seemed like that to him but I remember most of what he taught me)

Until I audited a post graduate class where he was the guest lecturer, I didn't really appreciate how smart and learned he was)

I'm still grieving his loss caused by defective technology.

RE: How do you know what you know?
The truth is no religion or belief system on earth really KNOWS anything.

It all comes down to belief, and people will kill for belief.

Make no mistake.

But no one really knows anything.

That's how stupid it all is.

So I guess its moot both ways.
