UPDATE:

I guess I will stay with it. I am getting used to the layout changes.
I have installed my fav software. I made some tweaks. Got things going it seems.
So not to bad so far. Just the layout is freaking me out a bit.
The menu items have changed a bit. Like when you right click on a file
to copy and past and properties and stuff.
The apps are a little different and so is the task bar and start menu.

But I think I like the task bar and start menu better then Windows 10.
Not much ads on the start menu like in Windows 10.

I am so confused !!!

RE: Installed Windows 11
This is what I am not used to : The Context Menu or Sub Menu when you click on a file.

[Image: How-to-Copy-Paste-Rename-Delete-via-Righ...ows-11.jpg]

To copy and create desktop shortcuts you got to click on the the show more options and go to a second page now

I am so confused !!!

The five one zero  Wrote: (11-29-2021 07:30 PM)
Im stuck with 10 because alot of paid programs run on 10 only. And win10 is 20x worse than when i first tried it out 3 years ago

What's worse about it?

What programs? Windows doesn't typically prevent older programs from working like Apple seems to have a habit of doing.

These responses look like they are from a microsoft rep. Here is my comment -

Why does the camera light come on AFTER the computer is totally shut down, even with a hard power off?
Why is everything on a microsoft machine, EVERY KEYSTROKE echo delayed?

Why are there constant updates? It is not security, because linux does not need them. Why does a free operating system not need them, yet they are essential on one you pay for? Excuses are wearing thin.

BIG ONE - How can a live linux OS boot in 30 seconds flat, having to probe the machine and install the correct drivers at every boot, on a 10 year old machine, while Microsoft, which is less capable, takes 4 minutes to boot on a new machine and a whole hour to install? How is linux 120X faster, considering it has to install at every boot?

The answer is an easy one. Being former NSA, the answer is this -

Microsoft has no intention of producing a viable operating system, the entire thing is spyware and all the delays and slow boots are there because Microsoft has designed a spyware setup specifically to not get caught, rather than serve customers. Microsoft has an intelligence platform, not an OS.

And this response looks like it's from someone who knows very little about computers, your point?

Do like Bill Gates does and put a piece of tape over the camera if you're worried.
The camera being on after a power off is HARDWARE! not software.

I'm sitting here working on a Windows 10 I5 laptop and there is no keystroke delay..

Updates? Don't you bother updating your copy of linux? Oh, wait, it doesn't happen automatically and certainly doesn't happen to a livecd version where it can't write to the disk and update the ISO.

Commercial software with the largest install base in the world is the biggest target for the hackers and malware people, you don't attack the also rans so much.
Hell even at the hacker conventions a fully patched copy of Windows is the last the fall.
They don't try to hack linux because they don't sh*t in their own beds.

Live OS? Which one of the dozens?
Generic drivers are the most likely answer, not testing, no waiting for errors, just load and go hoping for the best.

And I'm a Chinese Jet Fighter Pilot. What were you at the NSA? Broom man in the unsecure areas like the lobby?

Microsoft has BEEN producing a viable OS for 30+ years with the largest installed base on the planet.

I can map and track every bit going and coming from my computer with any number of firewalls. Hardware firewalls and software firewalls running on several OS platforms including Linux and Mikrotik RouterOS among others.

Block Facebook and Google IP's and watch your traffic decrease dramatically.

I suspect that you are using a pirated copy of Windows and it is infected and maybe your BIOS is as well if the camera is on when the computer is off and there's a lag in keystrokes. Maybe it's just a slow assed computer, maybe you've got too much sh*t running in the background.

I'm used to customers complaining that nothing works but when you have them show you its one little thing and PEBKAC or they clicked around and installed something they shouldn't have from some webpage. or they have 3 different antivirus programs installed or some other silly little mistake.
Which one did you make?

Still on the fence as well. But it's doing ok so far.
I am not a big geek person though. Just doing basic things. It takes a bit to get used to some of the new layouts.

I am so confused !!!

Just wow..... Microsoft isn't the end all, be all company that some seem to think they are. Neither is Linux, nor Apple. However each one has some strengths and some weaknesses.

Windows is, and has always been bloatware. Don't try to tell me it's secure, it isn't. Linux has its faults but of them all Apple is the most secure. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are the gold standard in security, period.

The light coming on and the battery never coming out is to enable Microsoft's always listening platform. You used to be able to take the battery out of your laptop, now you can't. It certainly isn't to make your laptop better. The light is hardware, but its controlled by always on software.

I have been using all of these products since long before Microsoft had a tcp stack. So save your "I love M$" rhetoric. If you want windows to boot fast, change to an SSD and ad a sh*t ton of ram. I used to be able to do everything with 4 mb of ram, now I need 12 GB. This isn't becasue I am doing more. When you are blocking Facebook, and Google also block Microsoft. Your computer will run a lot faster since you aren't off loading tons of telemetry data.

I have used Pirated copies of windows and legit copies of windows. Often the legit copies have the most problems. Since we are being honest here. I have also used legit copies of Apple and pirated copies of apple, they tend to work the same no matter...

Microsoft has settled more antitrust lawsuits than any other company. Why is that? It is becasue they do shady sh*t, steal other peoples code and get caught. Then they rewrite the code, issue a "patch" and claim security fixes. Yes, security for them, not for the public.

A lot of companies do the same, but they don't get caught as much becasue they aren't scrutinized like windows. Being on top mean you are always the target.

Now I can tell you what is going on with my computer, windows or otherwise, but that's after 25 years in it. Most people can't spell nmap nor can they use it. Funny how you have to use 3rd party software to see the same stuff that's included in BSD.

All of the operating systems has their issues. Try updating a copy of FreeBSD 8. But to stand on your soapbox for M$ is asking to get a beat down. At least by anyone who actually knows whats going on.

Lastly, the most used platform on the internet for servers is Linux and Unix. It's not becasue Microsoft can't make a web server it's becasue their web-server sucks. Even Microsoft is waking away from ASP.

Operating system and computers are good for something and each os does somethings better than others. Its just the way it is. I like using windows for my laptop, but id never use it for anything serious. FYI I have exchange servers running and Unix mail servers running, the UNIX servers are thousands of times more efficient and way less headaches.

People should take a serious look at Zorin OS. If they tune it to run most windows software, M$ will be in for a huge market share loss.

Not sure how I feel about it.

No kiddin
I have Win10- it's bad enough
I'm not ready for 11
I hate Microsoft, I think Linux is the future
what are the differences that you see?

I think 11 is more organized than 10. Navigation is much easier IMO. I still miss my 7.
