RE: Math problem
Another way of lookng at it shows the missng 1.

30 - 5 (discount) = 25

25 / 3 = 8.333r.

Because it isn't a whole number you will get a remainder, which adds up to the 1.

3 people bought a gift worth 30$

So 10+10+10 = 30

There was a discount of 5$ hard to divide so I gave them each 1$ and kept 2$ for myself

9+9+9= 27 plus the 2$ =29 where did the 1 go

What $1? The till got $30 with $5 removed, so it only got $25 total.

Each of the 3 paid $9, 3 X 9 = 27, less your $2 is the $25 that went in the till.

It is a fine thing to be honest, but it is also very important to be right. - Winston Churchill

what is still 29?

30 dollars were spent.
minus 3 you gave back is 27; minus 2 you kept is 25, the price of the gift.

the 27 they spent plus your 2 is 29, yes.

why should it equal 30?
just because they originally spent 30?

of the original 30 they have 3 and you have 27, 25 for the price and 2 for the tip.
3+25+2
there is no missing dollar.

RE: Math problem
30 - 3 is 27
27 - 2 = 25

25 + 3 + 2 = 30

No missing dollar.

The three paid 28 (nearly) not 27. The .3333 is missing in.the way the original question was formulated

it is very clever wording to deceive but the 2 dollars you kept is part of the 27 dollars they paid.
adding it to the 27 is just a random operation.
they paid 27, your 2 and the 25 gift.
