I'm upgrading from a DLP projector to a 3 LCD. Anyone have experience with that kind of projector?

My old 2006 Mitsubishi is dying a slow death because the bearings in the color wheel are shot.

Newer model I'm getting is a 2008 and it doesn't have a color wheel to wear down. I'm hoping it has a long life, the bulb was recently replaced.[/u]

I remember in the 90's seeing a projector the size of a coffee table that had three big glass lenses of red, blue and green. I thought... "I want that..." chuckle

I bet the picture was horrible.

If you want to save it you could download the parts catalog and get the bearing and replace it. If not, time for a new projector. It's important to remember that projectors can only be as good as the surface you are projecting the image onto.

Paid for by Brawndo, the Thirst Mutilator.

RE: Anyone Know Anything About HD Projectors?
DLP will have better blacks
Depending on your usage, DLP will last longer than 3LCD.
3LCD will not have that rainbow effect that is common on DLP
3LCD is brighter than DLP, so in moderate light picture will not be impacted as much as DLP

Many factors come into play here.
Are you using it in a dedicated "theater" room that's blacked out?
Are you using this as a portable unit?
Is cost a factor?
What type of screen are you projecting on?

I found the part for $125 but you can get newer model 1080p projectors for not much more. They aren't popular in the mainstream market because people watch tons of television every day. The bulbs wear down too fast. I only watch a little bit before bed so they work great for me. I have a dull white paint in my living room. The picture looks really good.

My parents leave their TV on round the clock even when they sleep. They could never own a projector.

This projector thing seem interesting...

The ones I ever saw just projected images...

I barely watch TV too, maybe 2-3 hours a week...

Explain a bit about them and how they work, what you can do etc... if you want... Cheer

It's a Mitsubishi HC7000. I will project on my wall and only watch for a couple hours each night. I'll connect a PS3 and Xbox 360 to it. Use it for Netflix and games and Red Box movies. I hated the rainbow effect of my old one. It buzzes really loudly now too.
