Gee, sooner or later when you overbuild housing you run into these sort of problems. This wasn't a problem before millions of humans plopped their behinds down on dangerous terrain.

In spite of recent eruptions home prices in the area are up over 10% over last year, with homes with eruption from the living rooms starting at $500,000.00. Hurry, the chance to own a bit of tropical paradise, is going fast.

Hawaii Authorities Warn of Possible Powerful Volcanic Explosion

https://sputniknews.com/us/2018051210643...a-warning/

BIG ISLAND (Hawaii) (Sputnik) - The residents of lower Puna district on Hawaii’s Big Island should be prepared to evacuate at any moment amid the possibility of an explosive eruption of the island’s Kilauea volcano, the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency said in a statement on Saturday.

It's even worse when it's covered by snow and ice. It all melts in an instant and creates a huge mud flow like St Helens did.

I am friends with someone who has ties to USGS and she says that they are very worried about the side of the volcano collapsing into the ocean and sending a huge tsunami into the west coast of the U.S. All areas of the west coast could be affected, but primarily Socal, central coast and parts of Mexico. She said USGS has been trying to downplay the situation as to not cause a panic. As someone who lives in SoCal, I am watching this like a hawk. She said for CA we would have a 4-6 hour window of time to get off the coasts (though no one knows how far inland the thing could go) and only 4 hours in places like WA and OR.

"Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has already shocked the world by sending massive walls of lava into houses and eating up cars, and spreading acid rain across the island. But that might just be the beginning.

"We know the volcano is capable of doing this," said Charles Mandeville, volcano hazards coordinator for the U.S. Geological Survey, citing similar explosions at Kilauea in 1925, 1790 and four other times in the last few thousand years. "We know it is a distinct possibility."

Shocked? This happened as recently as 1925 (less than a century ago). Plus anyone who goes to a somewhat decent school that teaches anything about geology would be informed enough to know that the whole Hawaii Chain of Islands are indeed Volcanoes. And Mt. Pele has been busily pumping out lava for a few decades.

So the only shock we should have is that anyone is shocked or surprised that people are losing their homes to the volcano that they live on...

RE: The Hawaii volcano is terrifying already. It’s about to get even worse
Those two Hawaiian volcanoes rise 13,000 feet above sea level, but they also rise another 19,000 feet above the ocean floor, making them the largest mountains on the planet at 33,000 feet.

And they are composed entirely of volcanic rock deposited by eruptions.

That's a lot of erupting that has been ongoing for the entire existence of those islands. And based on the size of the islands in the Hawaiian island chain they are only increasing as the islands slowly move across a fault in the underlying magma.

Hawaii wouldn’t be there if it were not for volcanoes.
They giveeth and they take th away.

Billionaire Oprah your next president has her fortress there is she doing anything to help the locals?? I knew when her and her antourage go to Walmart or dinner or whatever they shut down the streets before Wonder Woman comes through, have fun being the me Malachi or whatever.

These people living with on the edges of volcanoes and 40 feet from the ocean and in the middle of the desert with dry tinder and trees know what there getting into I don’t know why they act all surprised. Then in the end we all pay for them with high insurance I never use but am forced to have

Oprah lives on Maui.

Up in smokerah? LOL! She's probably not even in Hawaii right now.

Volcanoes going off in Alaska also. That's about as cold and north as it gets.

Earth's Greatest Killer Finally Caught

Painstaking analysis of rocks from China and Russia prove the culprit is a series of massive volcanic eruptions, which flooded ancient Siberia with thick lava flows just before Earth's worst mass extinction almost 252 million years ago, researchers said here yesterday (Dec. 11) at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union. Thanks to new computer models of the eruption's devastating effects, and detailed mapping of rocks deposited around the time of the mass dying, researchers now have their best case ever for pinning the extinction on the enormous lava outpouring.

The eruptions — now called the Siberian Traps — lasted less than 1 million years but left behind Earth's biggest "large igneous province," a pile of lava and other volcanic rocks about 720,000 cubic miles (3 million cubic kilometers) in volume. More than 96 percent of marine creatures and 70 percent of land species perished at the end of the Permian Period, versus 85 percent of life in the later dinosaur-killer extinction. In the Permian, all trilobites died out, along with 97 percent of the gorgeous marine creatures called ammonites. Sharks, fish and reptiles were hard hit.

That's a rock equivelant to a cube 90 miles wide, 90 miles tall and 90 miles deep. Roughly 4 -10 times as large as the Hawaiian Island chain.

they have satellites....they know the probable scenario
i thought in Krakatoa when they said that it could get worse and make a big eruption
if a side of the volcano is weak, they must have the proofs...if there is a big eruption it couls collapse and generates a tsunami
volcanos are hard to predict...but the earthquake always are a proof of inminent eruption
watch here....the intensity of the earthquakes increased....now those are 3.1. 3.2
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/...%3Anull%7D

btw, krakatoa super eexplosion generated a 30m tsunami, devastating Java Island
