Just get her a membership to AAA premier. It has 200 mile tow service, no extra charge.

Plus a whole bunch of other stuff.

Then give her USB charger for her cell phone that she can hook up to the cigarette lighter in the dash.

Make sure she takes her phone and a wall charger too.

RE: need auto mechanic help...question
start with a hands-on trained mechanic. barring that dont forget the chiltons or hanns repair manual for the vehicle. honestly tools dont work well by themself.lots of ppl can't even change a tire nowdays.

A set of metric sockets and a ratchet.
Phillips and regular screwdrivers
A set of metric wrenches.
A roll of electrical tape
Extra fuses.

would opt for a multi screwdriver that includes several star bits.those are needed for lights.might want a pipe or breaker bar of sorts.again this depends on the skill level of the driver.
can of wd-40hand cleaner and rag, hydraulic floor jack,

RE: need auto mechanic help...question
normally what people do is SERVICE THE VEHICLE before they give it to their kids i.e. bmw owners would come in the shop with 150K miles on their car and announce i'm giving this car to my kid in college, i want the engine completely overhauled and a new clutch and new front end and rear end, thanx.

and we would always reply but you've been getting your car serviced properly, perhaps some new shifter bushings, the entire suspension, and you'd be good to go.

and then the customer usually goes yeah, i knew you'd say that. but i don't want the car to break down. and with 150K on it, it is inevitable.

so that was that. we sent may a kid off to college with a 10 year old or older bmw with a new engine and all that other crap, and with the BMW provided tools in the trunk of the car, we'd usually never see it again.

and we would sometimes ask, and most of the times the customers would volunteer, that BMW still runs fine. no problems.

the moral of this story is that pretty much any car that you put 10 Grand a year into, will be fine for life. and it will never break down. (knowledgeable mechanics required. taxes and tags, insurance, not included. see local car dealer and spots car specialty services in your area, for more information.)

lol.

I would include a tire pressure gauge, a set of jumper cables, flashlight, also a blanket and hand warmer packets if you live in a colder climate.

Jumper cables are OL, but you need another vehicle to get the jump start. I saw a hand-held battery starter work like magic when I needed to get my battery started. It's called a Genius Boost +, model GB40, for $120 on Amazon. Pricey, but worth it when you're stranded out in the boonies.

Best advice in this thread.

What good are tools if she doesn't know how to use them?

If she knew how to use tools she'd decide on her own which tools to carry.
