Hearing loss and psychosis are linked

Hearing loss can be caused by a lack of vitamin D.

SOURCE: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6602194

Psychosis can also be caused by a lack of vitamin D.

SOURCE: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/813637

Vitamin D is known as the sunshine vitamin.

SOURCE: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3356951/

CONCLUSION:
Therefore, if you don't get enough sunshine, you won't get enough vitamin D, and because of that, you could develop hearing loss and psychosis.

RE: Hearing loss and psychosis are related
unfortunately hearing loss in newborns (the topic of your first link) is probably completely unrelated to psychosis in much older people (your second link.

The only link between these is that vitamin D deficiencies can be one of many causes of each.

I never said one caused the other, I meant that they both may have a common intermediary cause in a vitamin D deficiency. Jhikpghf

RE: Hearing loss and psychosis are related
Because two maladies have the same root, does not mean they're related. Hearing loss does not imply psychosis follows.

Thanks for reminding me to take my vit D though.

I meant ''connected'', in a sense of having the same root, which is close enough.

You'd be corrected in a science class about that.

Vitamin D deficiencies are also indicated in memory issues...

Possibly, but it's more of a language issue, the words ''linked'' and ''related'' are virtual synonyms in modern English.

Not in the world of science. Low Vitamin D levels cause a multiplicity of maladies. Low calcium uptake is one. Many neurons are calcium gated. Overall that would throw a lot of things off if one's calcium levels low enough to impair gating functions, due to very low levels of Vitamin D.

Let's take a look at the function of Vitamin D in the body and brain, so we don't make false assumptions or limit the function of Vitamin D overall.

chuckle I think it's a GREAT thread. More than a billion people world wide are Vitamin D deficient. The thread title is the only factor.....and I'm glad you started the discussion, friend. Not trying to make you 'wrong' more trying to clarify...

Here's an article from the general search that might be of interest:

RE: Hearing loss and psychosis are linked
I remember reading somewhere that lack of intelligence leads to violence. If I recall, it was because people with low intelligence get frustrated much easier which angers them into violence.

Violence is the lowest form of human behavior. I wonder if it could be considered a form of psychosis. Mix low IQ with hearing disorder, you would probably have a whopper?

Maybe hearing disorders mess with people so they may often have to inject their own words into what someone is saying to them to try to make sense of it. This could also most likely lead to psychosis of some kind?

I think we should drop that issue, and go on to have an interesting discussion about Vitamin D.

A woman friend has issues with anemia, and I'm noticing Vitamin D may play a role in anemia too. Too few red oxygen carrying blood cells.

Since the majority of illnesses have multiple possible causes, the point of my thread wasn't to identify a definitive cause of every specific disease such as anemia, but rather, the point I wanted to get to was that most diseases may be variously connected because of the complexity of causality in medicine. Or as my family doctor once said, ''everything is connected to everything''. Jhikpghf
