Trump is trying once again to overstep his legal bounds, but this time former Attorney General Eric Holder is jumping into the fray to say that the Department of Justice and the FBI should disregard his request to investigate the FBI and implied wrongdoing relating to his campaign.

Uhh.

Given Holder and his pals could be going to prison if there were an investigation, you would expect him to poo-poo it.

The inspector generals are having a field day. Obviously there were problems given the 5 or more people fired or demoted so far.

Spying on a presidential candidate isn't a good idea and there are some legal problems besides the fact it is unethical.

What does Bannon know about what and when did Trump knew about some things happening.

Is Bannon going to fight? Tell the investigators that he can't talk because Trump will not allow him to, or is Bannon going to spill his guts, because Trump is a disgusting "traitor/money launderer" and to get back at Trump for firing him and getting him fired from brietbart?

Bannon tried to stonewall House panel on Trump transition — until lawmakers subpoenaed him on the spot

"Steve Bannon was subpoenaed for the second time in a week during testimony before a House panel on his time working for President Donald Trump.

The former White House chief strategist was subpoenaed last week by special counsel Robert Mueller in his investigation of Trump campaign ties to Russia, and Bannon will be required to testify before a grand jury.

Bannon testified Tuesday before the House Intelligence Committee, where Fox News congressional correspondent Chad Pergram reported he was issued another subpoena.

Sources told the Fox News reporter that Bannon was told by the White House not to answer lawmakers’ questions about the administration or the Trump transition, although he did not claim executive privilege.

However, lawmakers compelled Bannon’s testimony on those topics by issuing him a subpoena during the closed-door session.

Chad Pergram

@ChadPergram
Sources say Bannon told by WH not to answer questions before House Intel Cmte about the White House and the transition. Did not assert executive privilege. Committee subpoenas him during the meeting to comply while in the hearing."

Clear obstruction of justice: : Trump is a goner.

Scoop: Trump repeatedly pressured Sessions on Mueller investigation

"President Trump pressured Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reclaim control of the Russia investigation on at least four separate occasions, three times in person and once over the phone, according to sources familiar with the conversations.

Why it matters: The fact that there were multiple conversations shows that Trump's pressure on Sessions to stop recusing himself was heavier than previously known. The sustained pressure made several officials uncomfortable, because they viewed it as improper and worry that it could be politically and legally problematic.

What we're hearing: The New York Times this week reported on one of these conversations— which occurred at Mar-a-Lago in March 2017 — and said Robert Mueller is investigating it. But Trump’s other direct conversations with Sessions about the subject have not been previously reported.

A source with knowledge of the conversations said they occurred throughout last year, until fairly late in the year — not just in the short period after Sessions recused himself last March.
The details: Two sources familiar with the conversations told me the president never, to their knowledge, ordered Sessions to cancel his recusal from the Russia investigation. Instead, he asked Sessions whether he’d “thought about” un-recusing himself.

Trump told Sessions he’d be a “hero” to conservatives if he did the “right thing” and took back control over the Russia investigation, according to two sources with knowledge of their conversations.

Trump also told Sessions he’d be a hero if he investigated Hillary Clinton, according to one of the sources.

Trump also repeated the “hero” line separately to aides and privately mused about whether it would be possible to limit the scope of the Mueller investigation to avoid his business affairs.

The White House declined to comment, as did a spokeswoman for Sessions.

“It’s not just payback; it’s punishment. It’s never enough to win. There’s never too much blood. There’s never too many guts on the floor. That’s his mentality. If you give him a paper cut he'll never forget that paper cut.”
— Source who talks frequently to Trump
Behind the scenes: Four sources with direct knowledge told me Trump has been obsessed by the Mueller investigation over the past year. That’s been clear from his tweets. But privately he’s been brooding about it so persistently, people close to him worry he can’t help but make the situation worse for himself."

Collusion and corruption trading sanctions relief for Russia for help in the election and for millions of posts in social media that helped Trump win the election.

New Hints That Mueller’s Manafort Probe Is Going Beyond Ukraine Charges

"While Paul Manafort has claimed, so far without much success, that special counsel Robert Mueller has overstepped his authority by focusing on Manafort’s Ukraine lobbying, Mueller has left hints in various filings that his ongoing investigation into the former Trump campaign chairman may also be looking into something else.

It’s not clear exactly what that something else is, when or even if it will yield additional charges against Manafort, or whether it will bring the Russian collusion case closer to President Donald Trump or his associates. But there has been a series of intimations floated publicly by Mueller that suggest more is going on beneath the surface.

The most obvious signal was an Aug. 2 internal Justice Department memo from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to Mueller, disclosed with heavy redactions by Mueller last month, in which Rosenstein confirmed the special counsel’s authority to investigate Manafort for both the Ukraine allegations, and accusations that the Trump campaign and Russian colluded to influence the 2016 election.

Manafort has not been charged with any crimes related to alleged Russian collusion, but there have been subtle clues along the way that suggest that Mueller is still digging into Manafort, and what he’s searching for goes beyond alleged financial and lobbying disclosure crimes laid out in the two federal indictments against Manafort, one in DC and the other in Virginia. Manafort has pleaded not guilty in both cases to charges that include money laundering, tax fraud, bank fraud and failure to disclose foreign lobbying — mostly stemming from Ukraine work that predated the 2016 campaign.

As other people caught up in Mueller’s probe move closer to sentencing — a sign taken by some that they’ve completed their agreed-upon cooperation — the special counsel has other lines of inquiry still cooking, and they appear to overlap with the Manafort investigation.

The latest bread crumb came Tuesday evening, with a federal judge’s order denying Manafort’s request that Mueller turn over unredacted versions of two warrant affidavits: one searching Manafort’s email account at his international lobbying firm, and another targeting phone records associated with five AT&T phone numbers. The phone record warrant was sought this year, the court documents indicate, relatively late in an investigation that broke into public view with FBI raids against Manafort last summer and seemed to culminate with his indictment in the fall."

So many contacts with Russia from everybody in Trump's orbit.

Ivanka Trump Was In Contact With A Russian Who Offered A Trump-Putin Meeting
Her contact, a Russian Olympic weightlifter, said a meeting between Trump and Putin could expedite a Trump tower in Moscow.

"Amid intense scrutiny of contacts between Donald Trump's inner circle and representatives of Vladimir Putin, Ivanka Trump's name has barely come up. But during the campaign, she connected her father’s personal lawyer with a Russian athlete who offered to introduce Donald Trump to Putin to facilitate a 100-story Trump tower in Moscow, according to emails reviewed by BuzzFeed News and four sources with knowledge of the matter.

There is no evidence that Ivanka Trump’s contact with the athlete — the former Olympic weightlifter Dmitry Klokov — was illegal or that it had anything to do with the election. Nor is it clear that Klokov could even have introduced Trump to the Russian president. But congressional investigators have reviewed emails and questioned witnesses about the interaction, according to two of the sources, and so has special counsel Robert Mueller’s team, according to the other two.

The contacts reveal that even as her father was campaigning to become president of the United States, Ivanka Trump connected Michael Cohen with a Russian who offered to arrange a meeting with one of the US’s adversaries — in order to help close a business deal that could have made the Trump family millions.

These interactions also shed new light on Cohen, the president’s former personal lawyer and fixer, who is under criminal investigation and who played a key role in many of Donald Trump’s biggest deals — including the audacious effort to build Europe’s tallest tower in the Russian capital."

The two most important "subjects" of Mueller's investigation into the Trump campaign's collusions with Russian intelligence are getting squeezed by Mueller. They are both likely to flip on Trump, giving testimony in exchange for lighter sentences in their criminal prosecutions. They both have tremendous amounts of knowledge of what Trump knew and when he knew it and who Trump has been dealing with at the Kremlin, and what the deal was for Russian help with the election.

Either of them have information that could allow Mueller to seal his case against Trump, Jared, Ivanka, Pence, Don Jr. etc. etc. Scream1

Trump fixer Michael Cohen expects to be arrested ‘any day now’: report

"Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump’s longtime attorney and so-called “fixer,” has reportedly acknowledged that he expects that he’ll get arrested in the very near future.

According to Vanity Fair’s Gabe Sherman, “Cohen has told friends that he expects to be arrested any day now.” Cohen insists to Sherman that he never said this to anyone, although Sherman nonetheless is standing by his source’s account.

A former Trump White House official says that if Cohen is, in fact, arrested, then Trump should be “super worried” about what he’ll tell law enforcement officials.

“If anyone can blow up Trump, it’s him,” the official said.

Meanwhile, a “friend” to Trump tells Sherman he expects the president’s troubles with special counsel Robert Mueller are likely to boil over soon, as he believes “it’s going to hit the fan” within the next several weeks.

One Republican tells Sherman that Trump is “very worried” about what Mueller will find, and he thinks that Mueller’s findings could lead to Trump firing both the special counsel and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein."

Ex-Trump campaign aide Paul Manafort to be arraigned Friday on new charges

"U.S. President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort will be arraigned on Friday following a third superseding indictment against him by Special Counsel Robert Mueller that lodged additional charges on accusations of witness tampering.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is presiding over Manafort’s criminal case in federal court in Washington, D.C., set the arraignment to coincide with a previously scheduled hearing over whether Manafort’s bail conditions should be revoked in light of the witness tampering accusations.

Manafort is currently under house arrest and required to wear GPS monitoring devices.
The indictment last week included new counts against Manafort and Manafort aide Konstantin Kilimnika, a political operative with alleged ties to Russian intelligence, for allegedly tampering with witnesses regarding their lobbying for Ukraine.

The additional charges could increase pressure on Manafort to cut a deal and cooperate with Mueller’s probe, legal experts said.

Friday’s indictment marked the first time that Kilimnik, who in previous court filings was referred to only as “Person A”, was named. Mueller has said Kilimnik has links to Russian spy agencies, which Kilimnik has denied."

It will be interesting to see if they need to release all of the evidence. I hope they get a security exemption so they can still build the case against the Russian intelligence operatives. Thanks for adding so much info to this thread! Hugs

Senate Intel Dems want to interview Ivanka Trump for their Russia probe

"Democrats on the Senate Intelligence Committee want to interview Ivanka Trump for their Russia investigation following reports that revealed she was in contact with a Russian attempting to set up a meeting between her father and Vladimir Putin in 2015.

BuzzFeed News reported that Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), one of the panel’s Democratic members, wants to interview the First Daughter both about her controversial Chinese trademarks and her communications with Russian weightlifter Dmitry Klokov, who she put in touch with the president’s longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen.

Trump’s contacts with Klokov were the subject of an exclusive BuzzFeed report released last week that uncovered the First Daughter’s role in the pitch for then-candidate Donald Trump and Putin to meet for the failed Trump Tower Moscow project. Democrats on the committee, however, have reportedly “wanted to bring her in for a while, a BuzzFeed source close to the matter said.

Though Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a Senate Intel Committee member and the number two Republican in the upper chamber of Congress, told BuzzFeed that he wouldn’t rule out having Ivanka Trump testify before the committee. The report’s source noted, however, that GOP members of the committee “obviously aren’t wild about” having her appear before them.

The report noted that some of Ivanka Trump’s other close family members, including her brother Donald Trump Jr. and her husband Jared Kushner, have testified before the committee."
