NOAA NHC now thinks Nova Scotia/Newfoundland will get a brief landfall by Chris as it transitions from a CAT1 to Tropical-Storm.

There's been a few that have crossed Ireland and Scotland since the records began, under the right conditions with little shear and despite the lower SSTs the cores of Hurricanes can maintain slight intensity in the North Atlantic under conditions.

They don't call them hurricanes when they are far outside the tropics,
even when they have hurricane force winds.

They can't even agree on a name for them.
We used to call them "land-canes", to make fun of the meteorologists,
but the best name for them is the way the Germans pronounce it;
