Which is sad because over time the markets evolved as a place for price discovery and capital formation.

Both of these basic functions have been destroyed by central and commercial banks naked shorting the economy via continually lower interest rates.

Makes you wonder what will really happen the day they either completely lose control or just pull the plug.

Nothing lasts forever.

That's when you buy. Its on sale.

I got a beautiful oil and gas stock. Rode it all the way down to 18 from 80 then like a fruit bearing apple tree it spun off a utility company and so then I had two stocks and the utility went from 30 to 70 and the original is back up to 70 now. Suweeeet.

Keep in mind that owning a stock is owning a piece of a company. That's something real and tangible like owning gold. Plus unlike gold it pays a dividend, a lot more than you can make in a bank account. I have two that pay 5%. A dividend gold mine as someone put it.

The difference is that you don't own the stock. The DTCC does. You just have permission to "use" it and it can become worthless overnight due to counterparty risk.

None of that applies to gold.

So actually stocks have nothing in common with gold.

Everything has risk. Gold can be stolen or confiscated by the government like in the 1930s. The downside of gold is that it pays no dividend and bars have to be assayed before sale because some of them are tungsten covered with gold. But even Jim Cramer recommends 5% of your assets be in gold.

It depends on how you own stock. I own shares directly from the company in a drip but also have some in brokerage account which if the brokerage goes broke would be bad news as they buy the stocks in the brokerage name. The only time I've a clearinghouse like DTCC go broke is purchasing treasuries through the bank and they were using some cheap clearinghouse brokerage and they made good on it. But even treasuries are subject to risk if the government issuing them goes broke.

Eventually it will collapse and we don't know how long we have but my goal is to learn as much as possible about the market and make some money and convert that into survival assets.

it goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes down ....
You'll wear yourself out if you watch it and follow it.
Just ignore it ... nothing you can do about it anyways.
