OP seems like a whiny B1tch that doesn't like any advice he is getting. My Gawwwwd you are whiny.

Not many alternatives up there. For many years in San Diego the only east west corridors were the 78 up in north county and you had to go all the way south to Miramar or I8. It sucked. Then they finally got Ted Williams parkway done and it was so nice.

I'm the kid whose in Roseburg, Oregon for a week and was going to leave today but I just read that Interstate 5 is on fire so I'm staying another night in Roseburg! Does anyone know if the Highway is open right now for traffic going either to Oregon North or to California South! Please advise! This is series! Peeps abandoning vehicles and truckers abandoning their trucks! On the way up to Oregon I had a suspicion about the fires!

Scream1Scream1Scream1

Go to Grants Pants head to the coast and take 101 south to 299 head east, or take 101 all the way down. Much more prettier than 5. It cost you just the cross over time.

IRC, that's Hwy 199. A beautiful drive. Close the HWY 101, it's a bit curvy, take your time on that section. It's not a long section.

Hwy 199 - According to 1-800 GAS ROAD - No traffic restrictions on it

Trees of Mystery and Confusion Hill.

Drive through Redwoods too! And don't forget the Bigfoot tribes. And the giant pterodactyls and the lost coast. I'll also stop in Eureka, Humboldt and maybe find some goo herb. chuckle

Craigs list has all kinds of offerings for that. As much as you want. Good prices.

Or there's a dispensary at the One Log House near Richarson Grove. Or is that Groove?

RE: URGENT! Need your help I5 is on fire need to get back home to California!
A decision was expected Friday on whether to reopen the highway but first authorities had to check the safety of the pavement and cut down burned trees next to the road — some of them 70 feet tall — that might be in danger of falling down.

Meanwhile, truckers who rely heavily on the I-5 to transport timber and other goods along the West Coast had the unenviable choice of waiting or taking a jammed detour that added 115 miles or so to their journeys.

"The road is essentially all two lanes on that journey and there's some steep hills on there as well so obviously slow-moving trucks going up and down the hill is making it hard to travel," Vacarro said.

299 is the detour route around the fire. Just follow the signs or traffic.

You're 55 and still haven't learned to be cautious...How you make it to 55 ?

The highway is the WRONG choice open or closed(on fire)...If out, it could reignite at any time.

Duh, that's why I'm posting. I'm an old fart and I just wish to go straight through! Look, the drive from Silicon Valley up to Oregon is horrendous! I've driven the entire UK THREE times and I wouldn't wish this drive on my ex-Mother-In-Law! I want to know when all is clear!
Staying in a motel? Turn the TV on.
Cal Trans has a number to call for updates. http://www.dot.ca.gov/cttravel/
Still got $$$ in your pocket? AMTRAK, can't get more straight through than that.
Close to a truck stop? Ask the drivers pulling in.
Buy a paper map & find a route through using streets instead of the 5 or other freeways.
Or sit asking for traffic updates from Lopsters in England.

299 comes out of Redding. His problem is getting to Redding. I-5 is closed north of Redding.

Yep. I'd rather not take the long way home on 1/101. That's exactly my gripe! How far South can I go on 5 then which way is the quickest back home.

The last report I heard is 5 is closed 10 miles north of Redding.

I've driven 101 many times. You could cut back to I-5 by going over Hwy 20 just north of Ukiah, or continue down 101 and cut over to I-5 on 580 in Oakland. Today is Friday, so I'd do the Hwy 20 option if it was me.

The sooner you get rolling, the sooner you'll be there.
