I would just say No more and find some where safer as an abode.

America .... tornados, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, blizzards, ice storms, desert drought, volcanos, tidal wave ...
No matter where you live, SOMETHING negative in nature can happen.

HOW COME AN UNLANDED CAT 1 STORM CUTS OFF POWER TO 300,000?

Feeder bands?
When a hurricane lands it's a reference to eyewall.
But we know that storm surge and feeder bands arrive ahead of the eye wall.
And it's a crowded area. So I'm thinking that's probably it.
I can see 300,000 without power on a cat 1/2 in that area as it comes in.
The power goes out in my town under mild storms.

RE: HURRICANE FLORENCE
yeah .. I don't think those stakes and ropes will help in a big storm.
Maybe a tropical storm. Maybe a cat one. But even then I kinda doubt it.

30" in how many hours? that's a deluge.

I'm amazed how organized it still is.

Just a handful of hours.
Outer bands started last night until this morning ...
Dunno .. maybe 8 hours? 10?

We had our flood event of the 'decade,' recently, 8 inches in two hours. It caused lots of damage when it comes so fast

I cant imagine what 30 inches in such a short period could do

Could that have been a prediction? weather.com is reporting 10 to 15in (still a lot).

TV NEWS stated it an hour ago.
Maybe they are hyping it.
But they did say 30 inches fell so far ...
