The Deception of Perception

perception (n.)

late 14c., "receiving, collection," from Latin perceptionem (nominative perceptio) "perception, apprehension, a taking," from percipere "perceive" (see perceive). First used in the more literal sense of the Latin word; in secondary sense, "the taking cognizance of," it is recorded in English from 1610s. Meaning "intuitive or direct recognition of some innate quality" is from 1827.
perception

per·cep·tion \pər-ˈsep-shən\

: the way you think about or understand someone or something

: the ability to understand or notice something easily

: the way that you notice or understand something using one of your senses

Quote:

Stefan describes how perception can deceive us into believe things that are not accurate.

pdf link is bad

Perception along with imagination are the best tools anyone has for defining reality. If you don't use them, others who wish to control you, define it for you the way they want to.

At street level, every proponent of the socialist "solution" either has no idea who installs it and runs it, or he astonishingly believes "the government" can be transformed into a beneficent enterprise and shed its core corruption, as it takes the reins of absolute power.

RE: The Deception of Perception
There are tools for gaining different perspectives. Unfortunately many of them have been outlawed. I've been trying to consume as many of those substances as possible. They give rise to something I call the meta-perception. Greater than the sum of its parts.

We really don't know sh*t, but we need to operate as if we do so we can function. It's an interesting dilemma to be aware of.

RE: The Deception of Perception
I can't even watch this.

Let's say you're a billionaire and you can no longer get your favorite caviar. You are furious. It makes no sense that life can be so horrible. You have people killed over it.

Then you get arrested and go to prison. All your money is taken away. You're continually raped in prison. It can't get worse. You get out and then are homeless, digging through dumpsters to survive.

Then you go live in Syria and try to survive.

Then you go live in Ethiopia and eat dirt because you're so hungry.

What exactly is your reality after you've had all of these experiences? Imagine going back to not getting your caviar as a billionaire after almost starving to death? Instead of being furious, you wouldn't believe how amazing your life is.

Perception IS reality. There is nothing deceitful here.

RE: The Deception of Perception
Have not decided on watching yet, may get to it later.

But I wish I had studied perception a bit more than I have. Cognitive psychology is pretty scientific compared to other realms of the field. That knowledge used to deceive intentionally I'd imagine it to be fairly potent.

Before I decide to watch, do they do much psychology talks ABS?
