Wait...

You can't have a new DSM definition along with symptoms and not include a drug to go with it.

I nominate...

Lopazine

Gotta get the advertising department going on this one.

RE: Conspiracy Induced Obsession
I never paid much mind to conspiracies or much depth beyond liking something or supporting it or not.

Liked to mind my own business and was simply hard working with selfish pursuits. Working for the life I wanted while enjoying the moment.

Then after 9/11 I noticed a lot of oddly possibly related things to Revelation 10, 17, 18.

Asked for some wisdom, ended up a mad man and a drunk. Well a more reliable drinker.

I think it's the opposite. You might be interested by conspiracy theories because of a pre-existing obsession. Jhikpghf

I just invented a new DSM 5 diagnosis I think.

When I was relatively new to the conspiracy scene, and i am not even sure which prophecy triggered it , I got obsessed with mount. St. Helens blowing it's lid off.. I had proggies running to record screenshots from volcano webcams and all.

Anyone here have similar experiences?

Closest thing I can think of would be the months leading up to Y2K. I was a teenager (20 maybe...?) and some dude on cable access had a regular show called "Are You Prepared?"

He seemed "real serious". He claimed FEMA was going to enter communities in the wake of all the destruction and basically "take over".

He claimed to have a "contact" within FEMA who had already gone up into the woods with his family "to prepare".

This was the first tangible experience I ever had with any "conspiracy". It really freaked me out. I watched a number of episodes of this guy's show (he was VERY low-key, just him and a camera; he was the anti-Alex Jones) and started to experience some mild anxiety that "FEMA was coming to get us..."

Meanwhile he was clearly full of sh*t.

I've operated with a healthy debunker's skepticism of anything/everything that claims to be a "conspiracy" ever since.

What's interesting, now that I think about it, is that guy used all the same foul tactics I still see being used by "conspiracy people" to this day. On this forum and elsewhere.

Nothing's really changed. Fear mongering's still fear mongering.

"(He) originated the concept 'enemy of the people.' This term automatically made it unnecessary that the ideological errors of a man or men engaged in a controversy be proven. It made possible the use of the cruelest repression.”
