Only people who have made some SERIOUSLY poor life choices.

We have blue collar guys working for us at around $25 an hour. Because they bothered to learn a skill, because they are hard workers, because they’ve been with us foa a few years and have worked their way up the pay scale. Sometimes they see overtime when we’re slammed busy, and then they make $37 for their time.

We also have guys at just above minimum wage, because they have no experience, dealt with substance abuse issues, have rarely held steady employment. We’re not going to hire someone at the max rate who’s only worked at McDonald’s, who has never held a job for longer than a year, has been in jail, or has multiple violence charges.

It’s not hard to get a job that pays better, and slowly over several years, work your way up. The problem we see a LOT is someone suddenly demanding more money because they perceive themselves as vitally important to the operation. And when they are told ‘no’, they pitch a fit and quit. So when their next employer calls for references, instead of hearing about what a great worker he was, they learn what a pain in the ass he was. So then they are also not inclined to hire him at a premium rate.

I'm laughing because I actually am vitally important to the operation of my employer, but practically get paid in peanuts.

I built our Active Directory domain, our file servers, our imaging server, all of our group policies. I built our network. Me. No one else knows how to keep things going. If I was fired, they would be fvcked.

I make about $30k a year. My college degree, all of my skills, gets me less pay than a plumber.

Which in this liberal addled mindset of a world will get you sued if you answer anything other then "yes we employed him/her and no we would not be willing to reaquire their services with us anymore"

That’s nuts. I made 30k a year as a part time accountant. And it speaks volumes about your company. If I were you, I would start networking out, inquiring about other positions. Put together a proposal for whomever is in charge of raises, outlining your duties for the company, achievements, your wages compared to other positions, and ask for a raise. If they refuse, then put in your 2 weeks. Find a better paying job.
