RE: Is it true that people in Ameica must work 60h per week
I retired at 47. But yes, working in the corporate world and running my own business, sometimes I worked 60 plus hours a week. On the other hand, sometimes I worked 30 hours a week. I never had an hourly job since I graduated college and was never on a clock. As an adult, I was expected to work until the work was done, sometimes that meant staying late, sometimes that meant leaving early. Sometimes it meant working from home also. Sometimes it meant working while on the golf course, or out on my bass boat. The good news is...working more pays really well. So well, I was able to retire while still young.

Work only 60 hours a week at one's passion?

I would always want to do more than that.

I love how people are just commenting on the title and don't bother to read the obvious (moronic) joke post. BTW I am the OP.

Basic work week is 40 hrs. Anything else is overtime, and at most places they give you time and 1/2. I tell my boss I need a raise of "X" amount and I get it because of my abilities. If you don't know how to do anything, don't expect to get paid. That's how it works in certain sectors. Also, if you don't ASK for or DEMAND a raise, you'll never get anything substantial.
